Hi!
I will start by saying I really did not know where on the forum to post this, if it is unappropriate here please accept my apologies and move, although I think (hope) the answers may be beneficial to others.

I am looking to email a large number of prospective buyers for a domain of mine that I am selling via sedo auction. The domain in question is a person's surname (well many people's surname)

I was wondering, is there a free site/directory, where I can lift email addresses for people who have this name?

(I am also looking for somebody with a professional domain-related sounding email address to send it from- pm me if you can help)

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
:)

I don't think you will find a "list" anywhere really .... And Mass-Emailing prospective buyers isn't necessarily a good idea IMO.

I'd collect phone #'s / Snail Mail Addresses first for a more "Personal" approach. Use email as a last resort , and only send a few at a time so if any responses come back - You won't be caught in an odd position.

This Is a good reference ^ IMO

Thanks for the link Mark, I will read through it again, although I think I have done before- the reason i was going to use email is that being in the UK it would cost me a lot of money to contact most of the buyers via any other means, and to get a response within 14 days. I realise many people getting an email out of the blue will not respond, but I didn't think this was considered spam, and they would all have a reason to be interested. I just wondered if there was a directory which listed people's emails?
I know I'd be chuffed if I got an email to say my surname was up for grabs, although obviously I'm a domainer so it doesn't really count!!

Perhaps i should paraphrase- does anybody know of a free directory of email addresses, searchable by name? Thanks

No, I've never seen anything like that. Good luck though, someone else may know of one.

OK, no problem. If anybody uses a paid subscription service such as this and could do it once for me for a one off fee I'd be interested, thanks!

These two sites are paid but you can get into high profile companies and their major contacts.

I never tried but they seem nice:

www.ziggs.com/

and

www.jigsaw.com/

:hi:

In all likelihood a business will pay you a lot more than a consumer
will for your domain.

If your domain is a person's last name .com then I have 2 suggestions
for you.

1} Contact NameIdentity and offer your domain directly or send them
to your Sedo listing. This company buys up last name .coms for their
business which is offering email addresses of people's names.

For example: [email protected]

I think they would be a good contact for you.

Find them here: http://www.netidentity.com/

By the way, they were acquired by Tucows not too long ago.

2) Go to Superpages.com Business Directory and type your domain
without extension in the middle where it says "Or Business Name".

Leave the Keyword and Location sections blank.

See if any businesses use your domain in their business name.

For example, i randomly picked the last name "Andrews" and typed
it in and got 21,627 results. Not all will be relevant but many will be.

Try it yourself. http://www.superpages.com/

Happy Domaining,
Patrick

when you do decide to mass mailing, make sure you don't use your real email because your email address could be subject to spam detection and banned.

I usually receive spam email randomly, I could see the header was like:

email to: xxsmith@ yysmith@ zzsmith@

You do realize this would be considered spamming?

and maybe bad intention?(not bona fide)

Really? If the emails are personally written to each individual? I haven't done it yet, I thought this was perfectly acceptable- can somebody confirm this please?
