I'm never had a host, or delt with anything Mail Server related, i've always been given subdomain space on friends servers and stuff. But i need to know something... how do i go about recieving email at a random email address. Say.... [email protected] what steps would i take to acheive this.

well you would need a domain on a web server (you could get your freinds to park a domain on there current server if the server supports more than one domain)

you then need to log into the account manager (cpanel, plesk or another alternative) then create a mail account with that domain

you can use the mail server or you can set a foward to go to another email adress

Actually you wouldn't be able to do that unless you had a whole lot of domains that you could generate a random list from.

But you could do it as in [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] etc .... but you wouldn't be able to create randomemailaddress.ext unless you had randomdomain.com ..... I guess it all depends on exactly what you're wanting to do.

Are you talking about something like:

You own the site http://www.myplace.com, and then people can email you at:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

ect. without you making all those e-mail accounts?

Well I know and use a service that does this. It is located at http://www.cjb.net. Once you go there, you can register a domain name like http://www.myplace.cjb.net and then any email sent to any email address ending with @myplace.cjb.net is sent to your secret mail account.

If that's what your trying to do, theres the answer. :)

If you own your own domain you must first get someone to host it for you. Then log into your control panel and set up your email addresses.

Simple as that!!
