On ebay a lot of flash drives etc are currently being sold which specify that they have more memory then they actually do. For example some 128 flash drives have been re-branded so that they appear to have 512 mb of memory. These gys have even modified the firmware to make the devices believe that they have a higher capacity then they really do. Once delivered it may work for the first few uses and then it will no longer work. Even some retailers are unaware of this, however if you receive one of these devices then it is the retailers legal responsibility to deal with any fault. Personally I needed a new flash drive 3 days ago and a quick run down to currys enabled my to find a 512 mb disco flash drive for just £14.99. Personally I would rather pay the slightly premium price. Anyway just be weary of these scams ;)

Thank you for the info. These people should be reported to ebay.

Thanks for the heads up, lisss001! This has been going on for a while, and it's downright wrong. :(

I'd recommend buying a flash drive from Newegg.com. They have some great quality pieces online for amazing prices, plus you'll get them faster than if you were to buy them on eBay. B-)

I bought a 1GB RAM stick from eBay and was sent a 512MB one.

I complained to the seller who said I needed to send it back (to the US) and that he would send me a new one, expect I would also need to pay for the postage to send it back and for the replacement.

There are some real scammers around.

theres alot of these, theres people who sell like 16GB ones, and when you get them, the computer will show theres 15.9GB or something of space, but then once you use up 128mb (or whatever) it says it is 'full' cause 128mb is the actual size of it and someone hacked it to show 15.9GB. (and these cost a bit, i think they charged about $250 for each)

Damn scammers, at least i havnt been scammed like that.

I just think the easiest option is to pop down to a high street store such as currys digital which is where I purchased my new one from, and guess what ! I haven't had any problems with it.
