Hi,

I'm looking to e-mail some bloggers about my service, but a lot of the ones i'm targeting don't have their name listed on the blog.
What do you think a good way to get around this as the standard:
Hi / Dear sir/Madam - stinks of spam.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could give me some ideas.

Thanks

Forget the salutations and get to the point quickly. Also, maybe first make a useful blog post comment or two.

Do a whois on their domain....
That would be my best advice. i mean some of it may or may not come up depending on their quality of blogs and type they may have privacy on. Most bloggers don't though

How about:

Please forward this mail onto the Website Editor or Site Owner.
Dear Sir,

Blah blah.......

I'd never use that personally. I still say most effective way is the WHOIS. And send a very personal e-mail, you at least have a better shot of getting a response than.

I would start is out as something like:

Hello,

My name is blah blah blah. I found your blog, whatever.com and was wondering if you would be interested in my services. Please note that this is NOT a spam or automated message.

Etc etc

If/when I get those style of emails they get deleted instantly. I never respond to emails like that at ALL. Any mention of spam often means "This is actually SPAM"

Firstly Bloggers can be very unresponsive to emails , but love tweets / comments. Try leaving a comment or see if they have any social networking.

Starting with 'Hello' is the best choice if they don have privacy on and you can't find their names on whois.domaintools.
