Well,

This is certainly bad news for those that use drop catchers with Dynadot's API. The have to block access to all .com & .net domain registrations. The other TLD's should be OK. The bad news is after this new API system is in effect, it's probably going to suck & be super slow.

Here's the email API members recieved:

Dear Dan,

We will be disabling API access to COM/NET until Oct 1. The reason is that Verisign is now blocking our connections because we are sending too many requests. API access to the other TLDs is still available.

We will be redesigning our system, and we will relaunch API access to COM/NET on Oct 1, and possibly earlier. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,

Guess the good old days of being able to catch short domains at Dynadot with drop catchers is over :(

It all but totally kills my drop catching. GD backorders are far more expensive -- $18.99 ea. compared with Dynadot's $7.50 -- plus Dynadot has built-in domain tasting.

Has anyone had luck drop catching with other APIs?

Good thing I wrote my own API for Dynadot that doesn't rely on their official API.

I'm sure you're right though, once the official API comes back it is going to be more limited than the old version, which was already too limited.
