Which of these two registrars do you feel is the more reliable in terms of service, uptime, etc.? I want a reasonably-priced registrar that offers domain privacy without too costly extra fees.

Name.com includes privacy with their $8.99 registration. I also like their user interface and look and feel better.

Dynadot is a bit more expensive: $9.25 + $2.00 for privacy. But they seem to be a smaller, more service-oriented company, and maybe they will respond to my needs better than a larger company. They also have a forum for users. On the other hand, I have read some not-so-good things about DynaDot and Godaddy, another person's poor experience with Dynadot.

I plan on transferring two domain names from Godaddy, and registering at least two more. GoDaddy charges too much for domain privacy.

Or perhaps, I should separate my holdings between these companies?

Are there other registrars that I should consider? Moniker, NameCheap, etc.

eccles - I have used both extensively to include about 7 other registrars as well. I can personally say I trust name.com with every single one of my domains (I have hundreds there). I am actually thinking of transfering a bunch of my names to name.com when they are up for renewal from other various registrars.

As mentioned you like the interface at name, I do too. I think it is absolutely wonderful especially for someone with a BUNCH of names, the bulk processing is beautiful. It took me a while to get used to it, as I was used to the static cookie cutter registrars, but once I learned it, Name.com for the win!

In your post you seem to think you might get better service with Dynadot because you think Name.com is a huge company. I have no idea the size of Name.com, but I can tell you this, I have called them 4-5 times over the last year for various reasons (the colorado office) and their knowledge and willingness to help out blew me away. To be honest, that is what sold me on them, is their customer service. Other registrars I call and wait on hold for 10 minutes until one of their many "phone desk" people can answer my call and pretend to know important issues like DNS, routing, registrars, etc. Let me tell you Name.com's support knows. I have called them and emailed them for many different reasons, even some obscure TLD issues I was having and they got to the bottom of it ASAP. I have never had to wait to speak with support either.

If you know anything about me, I really dont give my support to many places, companies, businesses, etc.. but I absolutely love Name.com.

Thanks Kellie and MJ.

I have decided to go with Name.com. I registered two domains at Name.com, and plan to register a few more, but not until I transfer my two existing Godaddy domans. And this is where I am confused:

I unlocked one of the two domains at GoDaddy, but I never received an authorization code in any of the emails. So I relocked the domain, and I am now trying to figure out how to get the authorization code. Is there an automated way to get a code, or should I call up GoDaddy customer service? I suppose I could call their customer service, but I wonder if they will try to sweet-talk me into staying with Godaddy?

eccles - you can retrieve the auth code from the control panel, but it's has nothing to do with unlocking the name.

You can open each individual name and click on the link next to "Authorization Code" it should say "send by email".

Good luck!

While I prefer Dynadot's inetrface, I must say that - in my experience - Name.com service proved to be much faster, and rather efficient. So it is certainly not a bad choice.

eccles ..... am wondering why you wanna move from godaddy, i guess their services are amazing and even their prices. i have seen many people here expressing negative opinion about godaddy, from my experince with them for 3 years now they are good in term of customer service, securing domains, and prices. i admit that their interface is a bit complicated and slow.

i have couple of domains now with name.com and i gotta tell you that they are good too, user friendly interface and good prices.

i cant recommend one over the other, because it depends on the user taste.

my question now for every body in this thread : why so many people have (lets say) have negative empression about godaddy.com

:)
