...I was a few hours late in renewing two .pl domain names, but I did pay as paypal indicates(33.98) which dynadot got. Not soon enuf, I see, as they deleted the names from my account. No grace period, I guess.

Now I do want those names but if you're hours late you lose. So what happens to my money and what lucky employee gets to reg those names or allow a friend to?

Other than this, I like dynadot but in this instance they seem a tad sneaky since they do not even give me the courtesy to answer my emails, 3 emails and a facebook message and its like they do not even exist.

Anyone from dynadot here to help? Thanx...

I did get this messages from .pl:

Szanowni Państwo,

Uprzejmie informujemy, że nazwa domeny ******.pl nie została opłacona na kolejny okres rozliczeniowy i jest w trakcie 15-dniowego wygasania. Usługi z nią związane przestały być dostępne (np. strona www, poczta elektroniczna).

Jeżeli są Państwo zainteresowani dalszym utrzymywaniem nazwy domeny prosimy o kontakt z rejestratorem lub jego przedstawicielem handlowym.

Dear Customer,

The domain *****.pl has not been renewed for the next billing period and it is about to expire. Related services are no longer available (e.g. websites, e-mail). The domain name may remain in this state up to 15 days and after that period it will be released.

If you are still interested in maintaining the domain name, please contact the registrar or the sales representative of your current registrar.

Send them a tweet. That should get their attention pretty quickly.

I already got a reply, I guess it took them time to make something up.

Contrary to what .PL registry, NASK is telling me, Dynadot decided to spin its own story and shut the door on me for reasons one can only guess at.

The .PL registry stated that:

"The domain name may remain in this state up to 15 days and after that period it will be released.
>

.PL Registry, NASK "

and Dynadots excuse:

"Your .PL domains expired on January 2. .PL domains don't have a post expiration grace period, which means they are deleted by the registry immediately once they expire. You submitted your renewal order on January 3. "

.PL gave 15 days and Dynadot is pulling the wool over my eyes for two good names I have and they are willing to tarnish their reputation for them. Nice...real nice.

I admit that I still like Dynadot, a lot, actually, but this little escapade should serve as fair notice to all that they are NOT above a little shady dealings and practices now and then, so if you have anything of worth there I would strongly advise you to renew it promptly or transfer it ahead of time as their explaation does not match what was sent to me. They have no hesititation to stiff you good and create a contrary story to gain advantage over you for them or perhaps good clients...

You didn't call them out on this?

Since it was few hours expired, it could have been better if an immediate phone call was made right after renewing your domains to follow-up and check where you stand.

I am complaining, but they already credited the money I paid(funny, if it was "deleted" from my account, how I was able to check the renewal box and make the payments. They must be laughing up a storm as they got another "sucker").

I'll see how far it goes. They are really good names, too.

Just use this as a lesson that they are definitely NOT to be trusted as they are able to make stuff up, from what I am learning, just like any other registrar...

If anything, Dynadot should have said "gradually" rather than "immediately" in their response to you.

Currently I can't find anything that details a .pl domain name's life cycle, so I'm guessing based on what I know. That 15-day thing is probably a "holding period" when the domain name will be deleted, similar to the five-day Pending Delete for .com where it can't be renewed or redeemed.

In a past job, one thing I learned is to give options to a customer. Thus, NASK might've responded to you this way:

If you are still interested in maintaining the domain name, please contact the registrar or the sales representative of your current registrar.

As an option, albeit a futile one.

Note that NASK said "maintaining the domain name" rather than renewing the domain name. While one may get the impression of being able to renew, NASK never said that.

(It probably would've been better if NASK told you like, "Sorry, we can't do anything anymore". Of course, nobody likes that response.)

Remember that country-code domain extensions have their own rules. I can't recall the exact ones, but I've seen some that have to be renewed X days before expiry and others with no after-expiry grace periods.

Just my opinion, anyway, based on what I read here.

It should be first noted that you sent your first email at around 1 AM on the 4th (Saturday), Dynadot time. We do not work 24/7. All of our employees were likely in bed at that time or partying (but definitely not working).

Support is offered from 9A-6P Pacific Time.

There was nothing shady going on and the renewal policy for .PL domains is mentioned in both our Service Agreement and on the ccTLD landing page.

https://www.dynadot.com/domain/pl.html

Other European extensions that don't have post expiration grace periods (of ones we carry) are .BE, .DE, .EU, .AT and in this case .PL. All would need to be renewed before the expire if you intend to keep them.

As was pointed out by another member, NASK said "Maintain" not "Renew." Those are two different things. Maintaining a domain is what would be considered "Restoring" in other extensions.

Thank you for taking the time out to explain the situation.

When I received the answer via email, it was admitted by Dynadot that the check box should NOT have been there for me to check and pay on the 3rd of January and that would be looked into. I guess that checkbox being there added to the confusion and my negative thinking(which I admit should not have done).

Also, I did not feel like paying 159.98 for the two names which they DID offer me. Since this appears to be a comedy of errors on Dynadot's part(and mine, by trusting them), I decided to carry on and forget the names. Good luck to whoever gets them. They are good ones.

Thanks again, Samuel, and enjoy the day.
