.LA is now the official internet address for Los Angeles, the world's first city to receive this accolade. It used to belong to Laos, but since about a month ago it is officially the domain extention for Los Angeles.

Every single extention is taken, except .md, .hn. & .jobs. Even subdomains like uk.com, uk.net, us.com & de.com is taken.

Could be a good name for a business in LA that sells DVDs.

What do you think about the value of this name?

Good but not great. Would need development imho.

Interesting what the next couple of years will bring, what with the larger sized blue-ray disks etc, but dvds are so usefull I'm sure they will be used for many a year.

Hi. :) You might want to take a look at the root zone informaton below which says that .la is still the extension of The Peoples Republic of Lao.

http://www.iana.org/root-whois/la.htm

You might also want to read a blog entry already from 2004 that I found on web

http://www.jacobsen.no/anders/blog/archives/2004/06/03/la_domain_names_and_tv_fm_and_others.html

Thanks for the link. I checked out the Iana.org site, it says that last time updated was:

Record last updated - 15-February-2007

I remember reading here on a NP discussion with a link to a site saying that it is now Los Angeles since a few weeks ago. Oh well.

Anytime. :) Well, I'm sure if there would be such an important change, first thing they do would be to update the records. Below another link.

Beyond any doubt .la is still the domain of Lao.

Anyway, seems the Los Angeles trick is already in use since years. No one is stopping them. So it seems to be legal. Strange.

Btw, just a short time ago I stumbled over a registrar site who was selling .ws domains. They stated seriously .ws were the official extensions for (w)eb (s)ite.
