If you've ever worked on a crew in some facet of the entertainment business, at the end of almost every job, after the "wrap" has been completed and just before you are ready to leave the location and drive home, you will have heard one of these lines. "OK. Time to do a 'dummy check'. "Anybody do a 'dummy check', yet?" "One last 'dummy check', and we're out of here."
I don't know how common this expression is in other fields or how universal it is globally, but it is one of many colorful expressions that is commonplace Hollywood jargon, which leads me to believe it has some branding potential. In case you haven't guessed, it refers to double checking to make sure something wasn't left behind and that all is in order.
On the internet, the same concept could be applied similarly- as a site to have something double checked ie isolating a site problem, checking code for errors etc. "Dummy" may sound a bit degrading, until you consider the "For Dummies..." series or the techies penchant for enjoying self effacing labels and wearing them as a badge of honor, eg. "nerd", "geek"
(I've gotta bunch of these in mind, but only a few that could qualify for possible internet stardom. ie AMickeyRooneyMove.com, just doesn't work. BTW, a "Mickey Rooney move" is a "short, little creep" = a very short, subtle, little nudge of a camera dolly.)
Any branding potential w/ this one? Any uses that come to mind?
