Hey NP,

I can't find the thread I wanted to post this to, but recently I read about users complaining about (1) LLLL.coms are never on expired drops and (2) when they are, drop catches everyone. Here's a screen shot of a program I'm working on that shows the recent LLLL.com drops and their whois registrar (we'restill in dev beta so excuse the UI)

Notice how DropCatch only caught 2 ;)

[PS] If you would like access to this program and (are a programmer, a UI specialist, or a domainer guru that can advise on an algorithm to filter pronouncables, brandables, prefix/suffex sets) please PM me for additional info. Limited access to ensure quality program domain outputs will be granted to those willing to help.

Compared to the drops a couple years ago, DropCatch's success rate is now through the roof in general. Their rate of success is staggering over Snap/Namejet. I'd be curious to see how many registrars they have under their control. Whatever the science is, they seem to understand it best. If its a good name, LLLL or not, there's a good chance they'll grab it. They just picked up Gono.com today which had plenty of bids elsewhere.

It only caught two because nobody wanted to pay $69 for the LLLL's that are only worth $22.

Well let's be scientists and analyze their data (regged domains) to find the common factors of their names caught, and as domainers let's take the industry back!

Ahhh Be Easy! I think you were the one saying this about Dropcatch! You're my favorite ball buster and all, but this one I really think I'm right about. You're saying Dropcatch only got them because out of the LLLL.coms those two were the only ones their clients had interest in??

zkjr.com is not better than guzn.com qtox.com xwuk.com xlsi.com nzxx.com ulxs.com imtw.com but ijkn.com isn't bad (I joking lol? NameCatch regs

Damn your Zack King JR! The Zack King I made up is broke as a joke, therefore he adds no value to this domain.

It's something my roommate started to stop me from bitching about people registering the best domains that I had my eye set on before they become available. Aside from querying the whois for drop notifications of domains preselected days before, we're trying to write an alogrithm that will filter the list to a managable size. We've tossed around a few ideas on how to improve on existing drop catching services, and we found some key combinations the drop catching industry lacks upon. PM me for additional information, and to jump on board the beta run!

I wonder how many scripts were written for reasons like this? LOL

I am sure other words besides "roommate" can be substituted. ;)

Now to the topic:

It sounds like a good idea. I wish I was a programmer myself and could help out. Good luck and let us know when the final product is done. :)

Trust me, I have a few other choice words to say besides "roommate" but we're best friends from high school, and he has sence taken over as "1 upping" each other. Meanwhile, he has a counter set for how much I make domaining vs the money I would have made working at Mcdonalds. I've spent 99% of time focused on buying and 1% of time focused on selling, needless to say Mcdonalds is winning.

Like you @Beezy he's been telling me to develop one or get organized about selling. Until than, I recon he will continue to shit on my domains. But I've remained focus on domaining for more than a few months (which is rare for me) so he wants to help.

I like that, Domaining vs. McDonalds! LOL

Well of course McDonalds is going to be winning right now, you just started domaining not long ago. Like all good investments, you have to put the money out first in order to make more money later.

Having the domains available for sale right after they are reg'd can sometimes get people to think "why should I pay more than reg fee for something that was just reg'd. Not the view of all, but some unknowing do think that way.

Right now you are researching and learning, and that will serve you better down the line from both investing and returns on those investments.

Typically, how long do you have to register before Dropcatcher or a similar service grabs the domain after being released?

Sometimes that varies from one registrar to another. I haven't bought any names that way, I usually hand reg my names so it would be better answered by someone who knows more about the process.

@stub seems to know a lot about those time frames so you might want to ask him.

Hi Jesus,

I am not sure if I understand correctly your question, but what i have understood from reading there are milliseconds between release and catch on high demand domains. If I understand what others were saying the pro drop catching service works with few hundreds registrars that are continuously inquiring the domain until its caught. So unless you beat them on their own game somehow, the success will be limited (none).

I do really like you try something, hope you succeed. If nothing else I would like to see data your software is collecting for statistical purposes.

Hey @Grilled Jesus seems like a cool app you got there. Interested to test out. I'm sure I can contribute one way or another :)
