Drop Catching Scripts - Do they work?

I was just wondering, has anyone tried one of those drop catching scripts which come with registars like enom on reseller accounts?

Is it difficult to set up the script to catch dropping domains? I agree catching premium domains is impossible with the big companies being accurate to the last micro second, but some generic / non premium character domains can be caught imo...?

Any info on how to go about getting an Account and setting it up??

Thanks
Rohan.

The issue here is very complex. Because many domains dont really drop anymore. Much of the expiring market has already been earmarked for some of the drop services.

Take for example NetSol - if someone at SnapNames backorders a domain name that is with Network Solutions, that domain is going to snap, no where else.

The other issue to contend with is the Tasters out there. They are fast, experienced, and are going to beet you 99 times out of 100. Now... I do know a member on the board who does use a drop catching program with Moniker. He does manage to catch a few domains here and there. But he has a unique technique that he discovered - He has a certain Cache of domains that he knows he has a chance at getting and he does so/so. But, he also claims he could have hang regged many of the names his system catches.

developed a script for personal use to catch at one of the other registrars.

cought those names which i could easily have bagged by hand regging also. not in competition with other automated catchers :(

so basically what u mean is that a normal guy getting names off the auctions is almost equal to a guy who has a script to catch domains (leaving out the big dropcatching companies and experienced tasters)?

So if someone new goes ahead and buys a custom drop catching script and uses it, how better off would he be from one who gets his names from the auctions, keeping in mind they both have an eye for the better domains?

how did ur script work, and which registrars program were u using to assist ur script?

What i can gather is that there is no sense purchasing a script and using a drop catching service to get domains anymore. Is that right?

Thanks, i appreciate ur help :)

The best way to catch dropping domains is owning a Registrar and setting up an amazing script on your own registrar. I mean Amazing!

I would easily spend $100,000 if somebody could provide a script on it's own registrar that could compete with Snap, Pool, enom and the other thousands of them.

That's why snap has some 20-50 registrars, so the backends do not get slowed domain.

So it would be very prices to start "A Decent" catching service, but snap is partnered with so many, it's just not worth it.
