Hello!

A few questions:

- How can I drop a Domain in Namecheap? Do I really have to let it expire?
- If the whoisguard expires at the same moment of the domain, and i chose not to renew neither of them, does that mean the personal information is publicly avaliable? Do I have to pay another year of whosiguard to keep my information private?

Best regards

1. Yes
2. Yes (Or transfer to one of the registrars who provide free whois privacy - Namesilo or Epik)

Anantj, thank you.

One more question, after the domain finally expires, it should no longer contain personal information about the previous owner avaliable to the public, correct?

It depends. Some registrars replace the info with their own some do not. I just checked the whois for one of my expired domains registered with Namecheap and it still shows my whois info...

A support ticket politely asking them to delete my personal information or replace with their own, would be something plausible, since the domain no longer belongs to me?

Technically, you still own it as it is in the RGP (Redemption grace period). During this period, you can still renew the domain and regain control of it.

So therefore, during redemption grace period, my personal info will be shown on whois (since I am using NameCheap), and there's not much I can do about it, except maybe renew WhoGuard for another year?

However, when I finally let it expire for good (after redemption grace period), that information will no longer be shown publicly, is that correct?

Are there whois service providers that will track that history and show it to anyone who searches for free?

I can't say with certainty. Never bothered to check in so much detail.

Probably but you'll have to check and find out

A suggestion: migrate the name to Namesilo that allows you to enable privacy the moment you register. They also change the whois to their own when the domain expires. This might be what you're looking for, whatever the reason you're looking for this ;)

I'm not sure one can order a whoisguard on an empty domain i.e. a domain that is no longer renewed and is expired, as whoisguard/shield is contingent UPON EXISTENCE OF AN ACTIVE DOMAIN IN QUESTION. Because privacy shield/guard goes hand in hand with a registered domain (fopr example, one can't order a car insurance without a car).HOWEVER, the solution to your dilemma could be found by ASKING the registrar the domain is reg. with for a GRACE DEACTIVATION/DELETION of a domain from whois records (when a notation on a domain is expelled from the icann archive) PRIOR to its expiration/grace redemption stage when your personal information would become visible. But this is something you should check as each and every registrar has different policies. As you may know, this is what happens to domains at registries permitting the so-called domain registration tasting within a specified time-frame post domain registration.

Thanks. I might just do that. Will see if it justifies the $$$, since it's more than one domain I want to get rid off.

Sounds good! I will try this as well.

If you just want to get rid of the domains, request for a grace deletion. That might be your best bet although, I think I did read somewhere that even to delete, privacy will have to be disabled
