dot ME extension - SEO/Ranking possible?

Hey Guys,

There a website which I really like the design, layout and features of. It's in an auction about to expire very soon. If I purchase this, I would want/need to utilize someone's SEO services to try and rank it on google page 1 BUT it's extension is .me.

Are the .me domains more difficult to rank (more expensive for seo services) than .com, .net and .org's? I also see there's a similar website with the same name in the TLD of .com already ranked on google #1.

Now I'm not sure if I should buy this website but find a different domain name altogether and redirect. Too bad cause it's a nice short, memorable and relevant name.

I don’t think .me will be disadvantaged for ranking at all!

However be careful when you hire third parties for seo work. Google’s algorithms have been updated extensively and the cheap tricks of spamming the net by blog comments, submissions to web or article directories and link farms and press release sites don’t work anymore.

From my experience .me is a fairly common extension and search engines such as Google or Yahoo treats the domain not differently from the standard .com or .net so there is really nothing to worry about. However, if you are thinking about SEO then the domain extension might be the last thing about which you need to concern. With all the chaos recently coming from Google updates, you might want to find a good SEO service for your website.
