Hey Everyone!!

Thought I would share with you an article that NP's very own Galel Fajardo wrote on SickLogic.com released this evening. Gives some great tips for newbies jumping into the industry.

Domaining for Dummies - Hide Your Wallet TODAY!

Finally, cut up your credit card or put it in a place where you can’t find it for at least 90 days. You’re going to have the urge to begin registering domain names like crazy - but don’t do it! If you visit the Appraisals sub forum of NamePros.com you’ll see most of the names that new people have registered. The majority of domains in that section are trash! It’s sad, because each domain represents wasted money. Allow their waste of money to be your gain. I’ll say this again - don’t register any domains for at least 90 days!

Feel free to comment on the blog with questions, concerns, and other opinions.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Three key "tips" ... #1 Namepros, of course, is essential and the 90-day hold on using any credit cards is WISE advice especially for those just starting out, IMHO. :yell:

Thanks to Tom (Good Luck with FusedHosting.net), and our very own Galel! :talk:

I say the same thing to all Newbies that come into this game. Dont spend money until weeks after you've read everything. You will be learning an expensive mistake - one which is completely avoidable.

You don't need to cut your credit cards, just don't visit any domain forums for the next 90 days. This will gladly help you not buy domains.

Before following any "OFFICIAL TLD" threads on namepros.com, new domainers should spend their time learning from the forum in sections such as "Domain Newbies" for at least 90 days :)

I disagree that losing money is avoidable.

It's like how you can play in the free casino for weeks and run your bankroll way up and then you deposit real money and it's gone in 20 minutes. There is a reason that happens.

There is no substitute for real money. Your spending patterns are always going to be different in hypothetical business situations you are running through your head versus what you will do in the real world with real money.

100% agreed. In fact, noobs shouldn't even open up those "official" threads at all. They are filled with pumpers and I can see how it would be very easy for someone to get caught up in that hype.

Gambling involves chance. Domaining does not. They are two totally different things, so the casino example doesn't work in this case, in my opinion.

Thanks for your comments, everyone! I'm open to suggestions on topics to write about, so the more input the better.
