Q: What is a trend?
A: A trend is a social process in which style or taste changes. This can be about changes in how we dress or what we eat or what we like to watch in television. There are different kinds of changes in style and taste. Some changes are short-lived and they are normally called fads. A lot of fashion changes are fads because they are only about one season or two. Some changes are long-lived and will end up being adopted by many people. And these changes are called trends. There is nothing “mysterious” about it and it never just happens “out of the blue”, though it may sometimes appear to be so. That it is a social process means it’s created by human beings.
Q: Who create new trends?
A: We call them trendsetters, and they are a distinct group because of their personality. There is such a thing as a trendsetter personality and it makes trendsetters crave changes from time to time. Because of this they are very open to new innovative styles and will be the first to take on what is new. There are many trendsetters in groups such as, for instance, designers, artists, architects, teachers, entrepreneurs and even domainers.
As a domainer, albeit someone new to this industry, i introduce "change" that may or may not catch on. My Mantra, and a domain I've owned since 2001 is "Make Something Happen". Already today I've changed my Avatar here on NamePros to show off my mascot "Biscuit" Biscuit is an English Bulldog, and while she's not nearly as cute today as she was when this pic was taken in 2017, she's still quite the conversation starter. My point here is, owners of English Bulldogs are trendsetters when it comes to family pets. So what might this have to do with domains? I happen to own over a dozen "Bulldog" domains, and believe it or not, there are hundreds of domains and websites that include the Bulldog name, and someone has owned BulldogDomains(.)com since July of 2001.....now there's a trendsetter for you.
As an fyi....were any of you aware that over 40 colleges and 100 high schools in America have a Bulldog as their Mascot?
More recently I started a portfolio of domain names that use the word "Incredible". When I'd heard the adjective to describe the rescue of the boys in Thailand I thought WOW!....that's incredible, thus another domain trend was started.
Moving on, just a few days ago I started mini portfolios for domains that start with two characters "N2" and "N8" Why? I thought names like "N2 Bulldogs" and "N8 Truths" were/are pretty cool. Will they catch on?
I don't know, but I hope so.
Domain trendsetters....show us you stuff
