Hi All New here,

I have a question about transfering one of my clients domain names that has been on Godaddy account. I want to transfer from Godaddy because I want to have my client have his personal account plus to see if I can save money on the transfer. The name is a (.com)

The name has just expired on this past Friday (5/1) so I got about 7-10 days to renew it through Godaddy, but I don't feel like paying the $15 dollars now since they stopped their coupon codes. I am hopping to transfer it to a new registrar that offers a very low transfer price for a few bucks..

Now is this possible to transfer to another registrar when the name has just expired? I still have control of it in Godaddy cpanel?

Any recommendations for for new Registrar with very cheap transfer?

Also if this is possible how would I do a transfer, do I do it from Godaddy's side or from thew new Registrar side?

I guess the main question is do I have to pay godaddy $15 to transfer the name so that it is active again.

Thanks all,

Benothecat

You can still transfer it but I recommend doing it without delay.

You can transfer the domain away for a while still (of course the sooner the better). Just go to your GoDaddy Domain Manager and click on the domain. At the bottom of the page, click Email My Code. Then, set the Lock to Off.

Next go to your new, cheaper registrar, and purchase a domain transfer for your domain. At some point you will be asked to provide the transfer authorization code that you just requested. Once the transfer is initiated, and you've received an approval request from GoDaddy, you will need to log in to your GoDaddy account again, go back to the Domain Manager and select Transfers from the drop down menu. Go to Pending Transfers Out and approve the transfer.

As far as a cheaper recommendation. . . maybe Namecheap? You can get a .com transfer for $9.84 if you use a coupon. . . https://www.namecheap.com/promos/coupons.aspx

If you do decide to transfer the domain, just remember to make sure you keep tabs on it for future renewals. . . if you have domains at multiple registrars it's easier to forget to renew them in time.

Thanks all, just got the Auth code and will transfer it. Godaddy said I should be fine but could take up to 10 days.

You should be able to get it done in one day. If you go into your GD cpanel and select "Accept" for the transfer.
