I really thought long and hard about whether I should post this, since I really consider it one of my "trade secrets" and I can honestly say it's given me a huge competitive edge over the last couple of months that I've been using it... but I <3 Namepros and I'd hope you'd post something incredibly valuable here to. I'm not posting this on any of the other domainer forums because I don't like any of them as much as NP.
For those of you who don't know, domain tasting generally refers to registrars picking up huge amounts of domain names and testing them on their parking pages for a few days... if the domain doesn't make it's reg fee, then they delete it and get their money back save for a very small fee. I was a domainer for YEARS before I ever heard of grace deletions and have some really lame domains like 1111111111111111111111111.info that I regged while drunk/stoned/manic that I wish I would have grace deleted.
Domain tasting has really hurt the small speculator because it's caused a very large number of great revenue-earning domain names that would otherwise be available right now for reg-fee to be stockpiled and warehoused by registrars. Fortunately, the practice was stemmed a little last year when they raised the grace deletion fee from 3 cents to 23 cents (or it might 28 cents... I forget). Even better, they are curbing the practice altogether at the end of March and only allowing deletions of 10% of the amount you register.
Anyway... to the point. There is a site I discovered called TastingGenie.com which allows you to setup an account and do automatic tasting in bulk. You put in the domains you want to taste. You point them to your parking company. If you don't specifically SAY that you want to keep the domain name, they grace delete and refund the money. If you DO want to keep the domain name they charge you $7.75. It's a really great setup. If I had known about it a year ago, it would have saved me tens of thousands of dollars in registration fees on domain names that I thought might get traffic but didn't end up getting squat.
I've been using the site to taste quite a few domain names and have picked up several drops and new registrations that are now making revenue being parked. I'd strongly suggest you check it out. The system I've been using is using WhyPark's NameTumbler to with a high-paying PPC keyword, estibotting them to see which ones have overture and wordtracker scores, and plugging them into tastinggenie.com. It takes ALL of the guess work out of it and eliminates most of the risk. The only rub is that you have the reg fees up front... so if you have a grand on deposit there you can only taste a little over a hundred domain. And the .23 fees do add up and it sucks tasting 500 domain names that flop and not having anything to show for it. But it's saved me a ton of money and allowed me to experiment with domains that I would never have picked up otherwise.
The window is probably closing as I imagine TastingGenie.com will be forced to shutdown come the new ICANN regulation on 3/31.
