Hi All, I have a question (or a few) for my fellow Name Pros Users. I am fairly new in the field of domain registration and can't seem to find all the information for a question that has been on my mind so I thought I would post a message and ask for input/opinions for all you guys around here.

My main question is as far as ethics and respect for my fellow domainers is pertaining to domain name ideas. I wanted to know what everyone's opinion is as far as getting ideas for a domain registration that stem from something you see in another persons portfolio.

Say for example, I see a domain name that someone has and it gives me an idea for a domain name that is similar or maybe has a key word in the domain name that trigger's an idea for a new domain.

Meaning that if say a person has a domain name of sweetcarsofamerica.Com and I see that and like the sound of the domain and I go register something like sweetcarsarecool.com? Is that something that fellow domainer's look bad at?

I just kind of wanted some opinions and input and maybe if there are some unspoken rules I haven't heard about. Any input will be appreciated.

As AEProgram said, just watch out for trademark violations. Otherwise the World is your oyster.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for your input guys. I have learned a lot about trademarks by reading here on this forum. I just didn't know where people here stood on registering a domain name that is similar to or contains a certain word as another domainer's registered domain. I have just seen a couple that sparked an idea for a name. Not really the same name or a typo of that name or anything but more of a thing where I got an idea for a keyword to look for in available domain names. I just didn't want to do something to cause any bad blood here on this site, especially since I read a lot and get a lot of info here. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I wasn't seeing like maybe an unspoken rule or something. Thanks for your input and advise. It is greatly appreciated. Have a Great Day.

Rules:

1. if a domain is free and you want it register it at once.

2. never mention a good unregistered name unless you want the fun of seeing how fast it gets registered by someone else.

Thanks carob, I appreciate your input. I am just wanting some opinions/input from some fellow domainer's like yourself. I fiqured #2 out from reading on the forum here. I know others are getting ideas like me from others because since I have been on here I have seen people go register a domain shortly after it was posted here. I figured if I get a good idea for one I might want to register then I will keep the exact name to myself till i decide to register it or not. Thanks again for your input, it's appreciated. Have a Great Day.

Some ccTLDs may have additional rules restrictions. Always read the T&C, or at least scan it.
