The next filter I'm going to set is max length. You think 15 chars is good?

I generally set my max search characters at 12. Which allows for 2 words of 6 chars each (on average) and still short enough to be memorable. Obviously I've considered 15, but decided that the few domains I might miss is overpowered by the number of additional (crappy) domains that will appear in the search results. I've considered less than 12 and decided the opposite to be true. It all depends on your patience when looking through the search results.

I think now-a-days upto 20 chars is ok.

The next filter? Is there like a program there goes through available domains to register? If so can that information be shared with me please.

^^^ I'm using Python (a simple programing language) to pull the text files off the web site and then I make my own filters.

You don't say what the purpose of the filter is. If it's to just reduce the data set - then I think 15 is good. You won't know until you're done anyway - if you only get 100 results with 15 and 200 results with 18 then you would just up it :)

^^Good Point. Right now I just have output shortest to longest.

Are you adding filters to remove names with numbers? That could make a decent list piss poor. (I.e. 000keyword or key000word)

Thank you, much appreciated.

I'm working on several approaches. If it triggers certain keywords in a file then it allows up to 1-3 consecutive numbers. It pulls out "4sale" However, I'm more interested in brandable domains that I think I could build a site on. Making an algorithm to spot a brandable domain is no easy task. I'm playing around with Pythons NLTK ( natural language tool kit) it may prove futile, but I'm having fun with it.

A few months ago I sold an 18 letter domain for $7k and this week I received a $2500 offer on a 24 letter domain that I've only had for a couple of weeks. If the keywords in the domain are good, people will pay for it even if it's long.
