It could be used as a place to tade/sell banner ads etc.

no, transfer means almost the same thing as exchange. The banneris transferred to your site, money is transferred into your account.

Well, as far as online usage goes, transfer doesn't mean the same as exchange, when it comes to banner. That may change in the future, but for now, its just not as popular to use.
