Lots of marketplaces offer you to put in descriptions for your domains... Sedo, GoDaddy, FreeMarket..etc. allow you to put in descriptions. When possible, do you take advantage of this? Have you found it makes much of a difference?

I have never entered a description for my domains on the auction sites or my own website. It takes way too long. IMHO. The Cost/Benefit ratio isn't encouraging for me to do it. I can spend my time more productively elsewhere.

If I have an opportunity to help a potential customer become excited about the many possible uses of one of my domains, I take it. My portfolio is not very big at this moment, and it may end up becoming too much work as it grows, but as of now I write a description for every domain I list.

You should do all the little things (like this) when your'e starting out. Later then decided if its a time waster

I think anything you can do for free to help is worth it. If you have hundreds or thousands of domains the time involved to start from square one might be a turn off. You could begin writing descriptions for ones after they receive an offer that doesn't materialize into a sale. So over time at least the handful of domains that receive consistent offers have descriptions written instead of doing hundreds or thousands of descriptions across multiple marketplaces on domains that might not ever see an offer.

I always fill it out, looks a bit lazy if you don't :P

Nope. Good domains speak for themselves.

Description can be used if you have relevant information to add, like you own the .net, ccTLDs or cheaper alternatives (+link to your portfolio). It's seldom useful.

I have found myself dislike a domain, but after reading its description, suddenly come to kinda like it, as the owner offered a new perspective.

Something similar could happen to your prospect. I think a description can only help, especially if it illustrates some unforeseen options and possibilities.

Of course if you have hundreds of domains...it would take time :xf.confused:
