I have zip codes of some major colleges and cities like=
02138.mobi (Harvard)
98052.mobi (Redmond WA)

The US is not much better as far as the boundaries for postal zip codes. As far as phone area codes, they get moved from time to time here in CAL with our population growth. This could work in your favor, or not, depending where your area code ends up. this is where you could really leverage the web on a mobile for all manner of local things like pizza, dry cleaning , shopping delivery etc
figure out a good site design and then apply across as many zips as you could
i only see it working in areas which have fairly stable, disctinctive and well-defined zips though
here in canada we have postal codes ... disaster, forget it, nobody has any idea where they begin or end, nobody gives a hoot
also 3 digit numbers for area codes could also be terrific if developed right, like marin county which is a really wealthy county north of san francisco is 415, you could do a great local oriented site with that number
