I am working on a site that wil;l be similar to trackpackages.com (yet different) , I see they use the logo's of UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. Do you have to have permission to use logo's of this sort ?

Also, would I need permission to run a script similar to TP's that will query the UPS website and return results?

Thanks in advance

try emailing the actual companys (fedex and stuff) but I reckon you would be able to because that means more money for the shipping companys

If you owned those scripts and logos, you wouldn't appreciate someone just
copying them and making money out of them, would you?

Anyway, you should indeed ask them. Just let them know what's in it for them
if they allow you to.

If it's illegal to use these logos (small button-like FDEX and UPS and such), then how's it legal to mention OVT and google searches when looking for a domain name?

I'd give you heads up to put them on. If they have a problem with it all they can do at first is ask you to remove it. They won't sue you right away. So, if you don't get a response from them - put it up anyways.

If a script was freeware, then there's no problem using it. If you paid for it - either. If you stole a paid script that you have to buy - then it's illegal.

I might be wrong, though, I'm not a lawyer :D

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you also make yourself known that you are not affiliated with them either and that their images are owned by them and such but just email and make sure before you get in trouble.

Regarding the script if you create your own or download / buy another script tp will not be able to do anything about it.

Regarding the images they are copyrighted material you would indeed need permission. I should imagine you will also need permission to query the packages as that would be considered bandwidth theft otherwise. All good and well saying it will help that company but they would prefer the customers to go to their own site rather than use a 3rd party site.

If you are using UPS/DHL/... service you do not need permission to use their logos on your site

The logos are protected by trademarks, but FedEx, UPS, etc. want you to use their logos providing you are using them within their terms of use. Most of these companies usually have an area on their site where partners can download camera ready and web ready images of their logos and promotional ads. If you are licensed to use their services, it will be in the agreement that you either signed (if on paper) or clicked an agree button or checkbox (if on the web).

I'd say as long as you put that they are the owners in the copyrights it would be OK. For the script part, you need permission.
