OK this is a stupid one. So you can laugh as much as you want as long as you reply with an answer :)

The problem is this. Last week i bought a domain. It has now transfered from the other person to my registrar. However, i did not get the DNS settings off the person and have no idea how I will be able to trace it. Have tried looking in whois but obviously its already in my name.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The domain settings should have stayed the same to echo what Bill said.

Basically the problem was this.
The domain was with godaddy.
I switched it to 1&1
However, when the transfer went thru I hadnt got the DNS settings from the person I bought it from.
SO originally the setting were ns1.host.org
I didnt know what this was and teh default 1&1 put on it was ns69.1&1.co.uk for eaxmple.
I had no way of finding out what the settings should have been put to.
However I have now ben gien the correct DNS by the seller, so I am sorted.
Thanks for all the replies.

o be fair I have been with the Co. for over 2 years now and never had a problem until now(which was my fault anyway )
However, the problem I am now having is that the DNS is pointing to my host and everybody else can see my site except me who still has the defauly 1&1 page showing. I have done all the normal stuff like clear chache, cookies etc etc, disconnected teh net cable rebooted teh PC. But still wont refresh. Does anybody have any other ideas as its really starting to frustrate me and 1&1 have said they have checked and that it is a "local" problem :(
