is using "dn" the same in popularity now as using "domain name"? i have seen sites using the dnXXX.com, and just using the 2 letters instead of the long words. is this an acceped, known thing now?
i have my eye on a new domain name (like i need one) but it has dnXXXX, and i want to make sure that is fairly recognized now-
thanks!
and have a happy thanksgiving!

depends what the full domain name is? dnXXXX.com, what is the XXXX? Personally, I wouldn't buy a abbreviated domain name, sounds unprofessional even if its highly recognized.

I think that the short abbreviated DN can be useful - but only for the right combination of words. DomainName is always better, if you combine it also with a very short word. Again, you can always Shorten DomainName to Name. I would recommend regging the name if its a .com then asking again, if you have second thoughts, cancel and ask for a refund (GoDaddy will let you do this, so will a few other registrars).

Let's see if anyone can guess what my answer would be??? :)

Like anything else, it is all about marketing...

"rs" doesn't mean "Royal Society", but you'd still expect rspca.org, rspb.org, etc. rather than the longer equivalents. Using "dn" may well be the right choice, even if people don't look at dn and immediately think "domain name".

I think DN is fairly well recognized as domain name among the domaining community... since that's your target market, i'd say go for it.

i agree that the correct marketing can get any name recognized for what it is- well, it has been a busy thanksgiving, and i plan on getting the name- it does have dn- to keep the name short- but it related to doman names, so i think it will be okay :)
thanks all!

As stated before, it depends entirely on the domain, for example:
dn.com is better than domainname.com, BUT, dnregister.com is worse than domainregister.com.
