Not sure if there is a similar discussion, but I wanted to start a thread or eloborate on names we have registered for development purposes. Perhaps these are names that we may sell for the, "right price." These tend to be names for development, we may be more attached to, or may be our pet projects, or "experiments." An appraisal isn’t as important here as the names potential.

Of the 100 plus names I have, I would consider 15 of them to fall in this category. Perhaps another subgroup are names that may sit for awhile in hopes they will increase in value over time.

Anyways I am taking a stab here a sharing of ideas with others who may be involved in similar projects. Call it supportive networking. :xf.love:

I'm game.
I got some names that are "pet projects"
For example:

openmicnights.info: prob got no value at all, but as a singer/songwriter, who knows how much of a pain it can be to find the open mic nights in town....I just wanted to create a site that could list as many as I could find, plus let others submit. (Have not developed this yet.

Diyrepair.info: Name says it all...Info on how to Do It Yourself...still workin on it.

BK1.us: Cant even remember why I reg'd this one.... maybey too much drinkin..lol Anyway this has become a project also. Bright Kids. I want to make it a site for kids to go to and have fun, but also learn stuff.

I'm sure I got some more, and I know I have some that I am sitting on for value sake, but right now....

I'll get back with ya.

Nice thread idea...

I have a few that I want to develop or have half developed but just getting the time is hard!

HipHopForum.org and .co.uk - definately want to develop these into the obvious name stated - forum for hiphop ;)

Globalisation.us - not too sure about this one, had a bit of interest from people... but nothing serious. I do like the name though and still looking for a good dev idea.

Theres a few others but doubt I'll get round to developing them, instead I think i'll sit on em for a while and hope the prices rise.

jkennedy,

Combining the URL below with a javascript, some CSS and the google maps API could provide a really nice service for aspiring musicians pretty quickly.

http://base.google.com/base/search?...+activities&a_y276=9&showrefine=1&hl=en&gl=US

I am attempting the same mashup for www.ItalianJoints.com and www.TastingEvents.com - google base+javascript+CSS+google maps API.

Just an idea.

Cheers!

I really like the first two. The first is right up my alley so if you need any feedback, give me a shout out. I have spent eeons as a singer songwriter, doing the clubs and cafe circuit. I was working for a web designer in LA (Lamusicguide.com) helping develope content, including listing clubs and resources. It is a very specific niche and you can easily tie in songwriter resources, affiliate programs--in addition to adsense revenue.

cheers!

The hiphop forums are great as there is such a huge community, you can tie it in to new music, Dj's, cafe press, give aways...

If course as you say its finding the time....

I have got quite a few...ideas maybe I should start with the easiest
:) I wanted to do two directories 1)Outmysite.com 2)Outmyblog.com. There are some great free templates out there so need to set up my reseller account and take the...plunge. Other forums...a Goth forum to incorporate music art and clothing, and my more political, iranianhub.com (already gets 400 plus hits a month as a ppc site--My Q&A gives more background on this)

to be continued.....

iranianhub is an awesone name to have. many many ways you can go with that one.

Nice pick.

For some strange reason I still like my xzno.com (pronounced Ze-No) I cant quite figure out what to do with it yet, but....

So, what do you think of the A1C.us name? Do you know what A1C is?
I think it has alot of potential. Just google a1c if you dont know what i'm talkin about.

A1c.us---honestly I had no idea what A1C was but considering what Diabetics have to deal with, the medical connection.

"FDA Approved A1C Home Hemoglobin Test"

A very specific niche..definitely has potential!

I was happy to aquire Iranianhub through a Tdnam auction. I have connections to the Iranian community, a hightly topical subject, International community. The name already generates hits. I am writing a book as well that takes place in Iran and...well I couldnt help but not think of...the marketing potential there.

Heres a few that im still running through my head:

FindExcursion.Com:
Theres alot of sites out their that offer hotels, airfare etc. (Expedia, Travelocity, etc.) So I dont know how I will fare trying to develop this one. Any suggestions/ideas are welcome.

RussiaTraveling.Com:
Pretty self-explanitory, I dont know much about russia so I will probably need a couple good sources for information and alot of research...Will probably be mostly informational, sites to see, places to go etc. With some affilate offers/adsense

WestCoastPilots.Com:
Thinking a blog type resource, or maybe a forum. Again, flying is an interest of mine but I dont know enough about it to be writing articles. I was hoping to maybe have a database of airports, weather in certain areas, contact information for vendors, the works.

USFlier.Com:
Same as WestCoastPilots.Com, maybe have a national directory of airports, flying schools etc. With a directory type submission form and such.

I have a few more in mind, but like most of the others I lack the knowledge required to write original content or "jump start" a forum, so I dont know what ill do..

I bought a lot of domains that I thought at the time "This will be great to develop into ...." and then spent all my time since buying more domains instead of developing them :)

Kerri, how did you take the plunge? Did you go for the subjects you were most familiar? Are you uisnf a template and writing the content? How is it going BTW compared to PPC sites...

:hi: SG, I have a simple layout I use with three columns. I find free photos on the net and fix them up in Photoshop, then I add a nice title with a chosen font and add some of my own content. Sometimes I use tidbits from wikipedia. I am developing mini-sites so it's too early to tell yet but I am making more on one mini-site site with adsense so it IS good to develope your lesser quality names. I hope the others escalate once they are indexed. The recipe sites are pretty easy if you like to cook, tons of recipes on the net and I've added some of my own. :)

I tend to be a cook as I go throw it in the pot with spice. There were a bunch of sites dropping one of which, World-Cuisines.com I backordered on GD. Sadly I didint aquire it but get an email everytime it changes servers (grrr)

I would love to see one of your sites! Congratulations on taking the plunge and been so resourceful. There is so much material available to lend itself to developing a small mini site. Wikipedia, free photos, and sites to pay to aquire images for use for a fee++++plus tons of templates. One of my ideas, templategirl.com , and the other projectname.net will be for that purpose. There are some great tools available, most of which for free or with mention to its author.

You still have a credit at godaddy for another name since you didn't get the one you wanted. Sadly, they don't give refunds for this (I've tried.) Just log onto your account, go to "domain monitoring and backordering." Then, on the right of the page showing your backorder click on "change order" or something similar, I know it has "change" in it. Then you can Delete the backorder and it will give you a credit to use for another name. To add a new name click the "setup account" button, enter the domain name you want and then your email address twice.

Here's a tip, go to pool.com and check their expiring names, find one you like and backorder it on godaddy to use up your credit. Unfortunately all the good names go fast so my suggestion is to search for expiring LLLL.com's and backorder one of those. Check for premium ones. OR you may want to keep your credit for another time. :)

It's great there are so many free tools available, I agree on that one. Those two site names you mention sound great! :)

gamingfonts.com

I thought it would be cool to make a site where you could download the font to any particular video game. The only problem is that I found I don't know very much about making font sites, so I will probably just sell it for the right price.

I'd be interested in seeing your recipe site. My wife bakes all of our food from scratch (starting with grinding the grain) so I've been messing around with different ways to list her recipes on wholewheat.info but am at a loss for a good (cheap) way top make a recipe site. Right now, I've just thrown up a blog but it doesn't look like the best approach. Would love ideas.

If you go to archive.org and look up world-cuisines.com, the gal that ran this site and 10 others revolved around recipes. I thought she had a good design, and had very high alexa rankings for a time. Its worthy of a look-see.

Haha hehehe my recipe sites have only 4-6 or so recipes each SO FAR!

You may want to do just a search on google to see the different layouts people use. Mine are done by hand in notepad, no search engine, very simple, a couple of recipes a page. :)

I only buy/register a name now if I am going to develope it or if it makes $$ parked.
