I'm putting up a website for Britons, but can't decide between the two. I will be looking to sell the site later on, so I thought the .net might be worth more. But, I've also read that .co.uk is a valuable tld.

So, which one should I go for?

not from the uk here but deal with a lot of people from there on a regular basis. If it is a site that is exclusive to only the UK go for .co.uk

.net would be better for more of a global site. Depending on the niche / topic you might want to secure the .net anyway and just develop the .co.uk and forward the .net

If you targeting UK then definitely .co.uk but still register other major extensions that are available for safe keeping.

Google SERPs are ranked according to their appropriateness for the searcher in question. If your target searcher is British, you will score better by having .co.uk as an extension.
