Some good dough the owner of Name.com made on this deal. Name has a twin smaller registrar, Domainsite, which was not part of the deal I think. It looks like both Name, Domainsite and WHO.IS are owned by SpotDomain, their parent co

The funny thing is that this puts Enom (also owned by DemandMedia) and Name.com in the same co and they aren't alike at all, Name is hip, Enom is much older lol

Does anyone know if things at Name will change after this deal ? Name hasn't emailed me anything, and they had actually just given its site a nice makeover, added some cool and colorful features too....I hope Enom would do that too !

Damn. I would actually have thought they were worth more. But one wouldn't really be able to tell just by domaining.

They must have been experiencing some financial issues. Can't see why it would be necessary to sell a business that might have been profitable. Maybe times have changed for them... lower revenues coupled with higher costs, other issues, etc. and now it was a good time to sell to secure a better price?

The breakdown of the final price was more than likely structured that way because of the tax exemption allowed on Goodwill. This is $10.997 million. Which is rather large... but expected I guess especially with online businesses.

Actually, I like both Name.com and eNom.com, although I don't prefer either of them. I like eNom's Control Panel and their Magic Folders. It's a clean presentable CP. But there are a few quirky things about Name.com's Control Panel, but it's still a lot better than many.

I don't really get the hipness of Name.com. it's all quirkiness to me. But it's probably a good acquisition for Name Media. Maybe gives them access to some hipper clients than eNom.com has. I hope they keep them separate, but that hasn't been the history of Name Media takeovers. Usually they end up merging them with eNom.

I never used Enom much simply cuz I could not afford it, most people can't unless they're affiliates. I was never too crazy about Name and they're not ready for prime time in some aspects, security (this was talked about in another thread) is ok if you pay for the Verisign fob but it's not great for those who don't. Also, when they introduced new ccTLD's they weren't ready to handle transfers-in for those names, I wans't mad but I wasted time w/a transfer explaining to them how that ccTLD worked, and they still cancelled it at the end, that was embarrassing

Name is 2nd-tier like Dynadot, Namecheap, etc (as far as size) Now that Name got took over you're probably right Enom will prevail. And Name had just added some colorful, useful features and had redone the CP to some extent, ironically you would've liked them better if they had stayed independent (check it out if you haven't, you have to choose the new look option, it didn't appear to me automatically) I get the quirkiness quip you made, that' true, the CP on the right is more suitable for bulk actions, expandable, not clear

If you follow Name in social nets you'll see all the promos they have and they're pretty responsive to customers, so the problem may have been they never did enough to play in major leagues like a Moniker, GD or Dotster. I use them as an alternative to GD, just like Namecheap which is comparable to Name as far as coolness, young staff and lots of promos on FB/Twtr. Dynadot is more serious, and expensive !

Enom has apparently still not worked on its awful WHOIS database. Like 3 yrs ago I bought a name that showed the guy who sold it to my seller's seller (you follow .....?) Andy sold to Bill and then Bill sold to Charlie. Then Charlie sold to me. Weeks after their WHOIS was not displaying Charlie, or even Bill. Andy was still showing from years before which knocked me off my feet. It is that bad. I never found much use for their magic folder thing, CP was ok, nothing special, rather dull site if you ask me, lol, you must've been a reseller cuz who can pay those rates ?

Name.com did fabulously well in the last few land rushes.
