Can anybody provide me a suggestion on how I would get rid of some pop-up code that was place on my machine when I visited one of the sites owned by the other forum.

I keep getting these damm popups from Santa Monica Networks and I can't seem to locate where it hid itself.

the worst one's I've had to remove create files in your windows/system directory that load at startup.

check your startup configurtation, and see what loads when you start your computer.

Click Start -> Run -> (type in command) msconfig

I'm not exactly sure about the Santa Monica code you mentioned specifically. Maybe another member could provide an idea of what to look for?

Would the latest version of "ad-aware" by Lavasoft help you?
It searches for programmes that hide themselves on your pc and allows you to clean them off.

Thanks I will test that one out a couple of the standards I use PestPartol etc have not found it yet

What really pisses me off about it is when I complained they admitted they use malisious code and suggested I buy a pop-up killer from them.

Too much..

yeah theres alot of scripts like this :(
I have a script that changes visitors homepage automaticly without them knowing
There is no point in this it just pisses off the visitors and there no sales etc unless they talk you into buying a popup killer :(

Isn't there a pop up that comes up and asks the person if they would like to change their home page to whatever, and only then does the homepage change?

As mentioned Ad Aware is a good one.

A lot of file sharing utilities deposit these pests nowadays. Kazaa is one that I know of.

Its annoying, almost as annoying as going to a site and they change your home page for you:(

Cheers!

Shhhhh.

lol its usually the porn or gambling sites that get you
but theres alot of normal sites that just secretly change your homepage

One thing that may stop this is disabling directX since it uses this to get into your computer and change the hompage

That is spyware. For my two cents, I think it is unethical to have this stuff upload automatically (without permission) onto one's computer, create spam, and possibly monitor one's internet usage.

Good to see you, Dome ... though sorry about the circumstances (spy/spam ware thread).
See you.
