The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

1. Calling the current registrant a "hijacker" won't help.

2. You can contact the current registrant here and send a message with your best offer and any other details you care to add. **Note remember tip 1**

3. You can edit out the domain from this thread, not contact the current registrant, then hope the domain doesn't get renewed and goes unnoticed at expired auction allowing you to re-acquire it for minimum bid.

4. Place a backorder/dropcatch request to hopefully win back the domain if/when it drops.

I am just a struggling artist right now, I'm no longer the person who can afford a urdp.

5. You can hope for two lucky stars to collide collide and exchange your art services for legal services... Perhaps @jberryhill is looking for a stra-tee-gic partner to make millions of masTEEbucks by producing an exclusive line of domain inspired tee-shirts?

How do I edit out my domain from this thread?

How do I edit my post?

It might be too late to edit out.

You can always report your post and/or tag a mod (@Bravo Mod Team) to request a reasonable edit (with justification) if it's past the edit timeline.

if you're looking for legal advice relating to your trademark, you might want to request this thread moved to the legal discussion section. This expiration/dropCatching section is intended for advice on how to win back the domain win/if it expires.

What is the nature of your dispute with your previous registrar that they prevented you from renewing or transferring YOUR domain name?

edited thanks

Why did you delete this entire thread and request it moved to the 'review' section?

What in the world could this thread be possibly reviewing?

Seems like the only hijacker in this thread is OP- @Jayseen .. for hijacking the time of namePros members...

I don't know what beef you have with me or what's going on in your life...

But it seems my post has offended in some way.

I ignored it the first time because I posted in the wrong thread and I forgot about namepros edit rules; but you can stop the passive aggressive and backhanded remarks now.

Nobody forced you to view my thread, I sure as hell didn't put a gun to your head for you to comment.

I deleted my post because a kind member of this community messaged me and gave me advice I can actually use.

I don't owe you any explanation for what I do with my own thread, for Pete's sake.

And yes, the correct term is hijacker. That's what it is. No matter how offended you are by that word, I'll continue to use it.

Grow up.

Nope, wrong again. The correct term would be domain squatter.

The terms domain name hijacker and domain name squatter both refer to individuals or entities who engage in practices involving domain names, but they have different methods and motivations.

1. Domain Name Hijacker:

A domain name hijacker is someone who illegally takes control of a domain name without the permission of the legitimate owner. This usually involves hacking or exploiting vulnerabilities in domain registration systems or account credentials. Common methods of hijacking include:

  • Hacking into the domain owner's account with the registrar (e.g., through phishing, stolen login credentials, or exploiting weak security).
  • Social engineering techniques to trick the domain registrar or the owner into transferring control of the domain.
  • Exploiting weaknesses in the domain transfer process or registrar systems.
The motivation behind domain name hijacking is often to steal a domain name for resale, to harm the legitimate owner, or to misuse the domain for fraudulent or malicious activities.

2. Domain Name Squatter:

A domain name squatter (also known as a cybersquatter) is someone who registers domain names that they believe might be valuable, with the intent to sell them later for a profit. This practice does not usually involve illegal activities, but it may exploit trends, popular brands, or generic keywords. Common tactics include:

  • Registering domains that are similar to well-known trademarks or brand names to take advantage of public demand.
  • Purchasing expired or abandoned domain names that others might want.
  • Holding these domains for a long time and then selling them to businesses or individuals who want to acquire them at a higher price.
While domain squatting may not always involve illegal activities, it can often lead to legal disputes if the squatters target well-known trademarks or if their actions are seen as an infringement on a brand's rights.

Key Differences:

  • Method of acquisition:
    • Hijackers use illegal or unethical methods to gain control over a domain.
    • Squatters acquire domain names legally, often by purchasing or registering them, but with the intent to profit from their resale.
  • Motivation:
    • Hijackers aim to steal domains for resale, damage the owner, or engage in malicious activities.
    • Squatters aim to capitalize on the resale value of a domain, typically targeting brand names or keywords.
  • Legality:
    • Hijacking is illegal and a form of cybercrime.
    • Squatting is typically legal, but can lead to legal disputes, especially if it involves trademarks or infringement.
In summary, while both hijackers and squatters may end up with domain names they don't own, hijackers do so through illegal means, whereas squatters do so through legal registration practices but may be seen as exploiting the domain market.
