Ddos attacks

i read somewhere about a guy threatening to flood or DDOS a website because the particular forum was revealing where the illegal warez were coming from.

the question is how is this done and what are the ways to PREVENT an attack??
is this DDOS attack remotely possible?

100% possible. PHP scripts that use sleep() incorrectly (php function) are VERY VERY easy to DDOS...

Theres always sql injection...
Theres so many ways, im not posting much, just because i know how to do this myself... and i have gotten introuble for such behavior and have turned these skills into something useful instead of destructive.

there is literally 100's of ways, if they were experienced, they sit back after having took control of like 500PC's such as school networks, then they set the 500computers to flood the server with http requests and boom

But this dude who is threatining to DDOS, he aint serious, nobody threatens lol

denial of service attacks just flood a server with more traffic than they can handle

ie if youve got a 10mbps server and you send 75mbps of traffic to it, things are going to slow down

most modern datacenters such has the planet use ddos prevention systems such as tipping point or self defending networks.

its pretty hard to stop them otherwise because they usually come from multiple pcs infected with viruses.

They dont make threats, they just do it, cause its like TV to them

I been introuble for "hacking" petsites with sql injection... lol...

I only aloud on the pc because my parents have $$$ :P

I wont ever do stuff like that anymore I was offline for about 8 months... you could ask a few people who know me... pavan (pavsta), Wesely, multiple others... those are just 2 people here i know of that would know...

Trust me, the worst thing someone can do on the internet, is kiddie porn (i ever meet someone like that, i will take a baseball bat to them :P), and hacking for destruction and of course... spam/scamming... but hacking for destruction causes people to loose thousands upon thousands of dollars, i was reading in a magizine that this one site lost over 500,000 for just being offline for 2 hours...

Hacking/DDOS can be pretty damaging. One of my old companies was taken offline for days because of a very strong attack (we were at what was then RackShack). The guys there told us it almost took the whole network out. The guy had access to computers on AT&T lines and apparently had a bunch of them. He was never caught because we simply didn't have the money for an extended investigation and of course rackshack wouldn't do anything.

They guy threatened me before he did it. He wanted free hosting from me and I said no so he said he'd do it. What was funny though is he did get scared about it but I think his friend was really upset about it. He contacted me and apologized for having anything to do with it. However, usually stuff like this goes unpunished because either the company doesn't have the money for trials and such or the person is a kid.

had a server of mind attacked a few weeks ago luckily the person gave up in the end. Attack lasted best part of a day.
