A bit astonishing that China may see Libra as a competitor. No comparison with existing cryptocurrencies, no word about USD, EURO etc.

No problem at all, yeah it's amazing they compare with Libra, maybe because Zuckerberg is a Jew and they knew he is a member of the biggest authority. The terrible thing is when China's authority announces something that the Chinese public has to achieve that means things will go faster than you think because of only one political party, like Alipay which only spent 1-2 years almost all the old people in China know how to use it.

I don’t think they will announce the public chain function because too many dapps out there couldn’t define whether it is legal but I do believe when dcep have been matured they will provide dcep foundation made by their own.

Thanks... Do you know when they will launch dcep and when will it be accessible to the public? I think this coin won't be able to compete with libra if they are not making their chain useful for smart contracts and dapps.

They didn’t say when to launch but I believe they will choose a specific province such as ShenZhen to start the beta version, because it’s a centralized coin so I think it only improve the convenience of transaction, further means they are not allowed anyone to public their own stable coins, their intension is to lead up a sovereign coin and spread out widely before every other country done it. But still it’s a really huge market for those country that want to export goods into China in the future, it’s like old strategy that USD does.

Yeah... China has over to billion people... Their mobile payments market is in the tens of trillions of dollars. I think DCEP domains in theory SHOULD have value, but I'm always cautious about non-Western markets.

When India's government released their new mobile payment system UPI I capitalized on it and made 1,500 on the sale of UPIPay dot com...it was a profit, but I expected much, much more. I did a lot of out bound and found that a lot Indian companies are surprisingly cheap and don't see much point in acquiring domains when you can reg one, even if you spell it out to them. So different countries may have different attitudes about domains. I learned my lesson and have been staying clear of keywords focused on markets where the currency value is very low compared to the USD...

I did reg sone DCEP domains just in case anyway...a new currency for a population of 2 billion people is difficult to ignore...

I dunno the difference. All I am saying is that DCEP is old news. It could be a rumor or an working title.

That is unless the U.S pull a Rabbit out of a hat and give them some competition. Which after the embarrassment the US Congress made of themselves as they cross examined Zuckerberg last week is looking increasingly unlikely.

This is an interesting showdown between Federal watchdogs vs. BigTech/Facebook. I believe there will be a compromise.
Regulators have watched Bitcoin and hundreds of other cryptocurrencies growing for the last ten years. Citizens and markets won´t understand that now Libra is the only demon out there. Zuckerberg cannot completely withdraw Libra, think of the stock market reaction and their Billions of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp members.
