Is it possible at all to register .CU domains? .CU stands for Cuba and is very actively used on the island. It mainly seems to be used by governmental organisations however, with very few private websites using the .CU suffix (by private sites, I refer to sites built by citizens as opposed to sites built by organisations or governments)

Can foreigners apply for a .CU domain at all?

I know the value is probably low since the average Cuban has no access to the internet except for a local email system ; but as a novelty it'd be quite interesting :tu:

The price for the granting of a domain name second level. Cu or third level under a generic. Cu is $ 222.70 pesos for all entities located in the country. From the second year the price for renewal is $ 151.00 pesos.

State agencies, business corporations and political organizations purely Cuban national mass and make the payment in Cuban pesos, the others will do so in convertible pesos.

For entities not based in the country the rates are:
- For domains under. Com.cu, $ 350.00 USD per year for the grant or renewal.
- For domains under. Cu $ 600.00 USD per year for the grant or renewal.

Failure to pay fees on time cause the cancellation of the domain name and its release to the application by another entity.
