CSS - New wave or old flame?

I'm stil relatively new when it comes to web design. I've been hearing a lot of buzz about CSS being the next best thing since sliced bread and it's all we will be using soon. However, I've heard others say "to heck with that, HTML is here forever."

Do you think CSS is the new wave, or is it overated and should be used "when needed"?

CSS doesn't speed up the initial loading time, but when images have loaded once through an external stylesheet they will display instantly the next time they are loaded on another page. This is definately an advantage with CSS.

If you are using a web editor such as Dreamweaver, then the css code will be automated for you, but you do need some reading skills in order to debug your site, as is the case with HTML.

I think most people go through a transitional phase like that when they start to learn css. The next stage and to start making true css sites is to also use the css for layout.

i use tables still but use css for the styling, widths and heights....that is it because it saves time for me now.

I always use CSS, its more organized and alot easier if you want to change colors and themes for a website
