Cryptocurrency Payments: The Future of Domain Name Registration?

With crypto payments like Bitcoin and USDT now live for domain registrations on our platform, it's clear blockchain isn't just for traders anymore.
How soon do you think crypto becomes the default for online services?

Default? Never.

Another option alongside paypal, klarna, etc. Sure.

I don't see crypto being defaulted either. At least, not until credit card chips become embedded in everyones hands and there's no more plastic cards with numbers to reference at payout anywhere.

But now we're starting to get into some sci-fi conspiracy territory... :)

I agree.

Most people are just going to continue to use normal, convenient options like credit card.

The "decentralized" nature of different cryptocurrencies and systems can make it quite a complex pain in the ass for the average person.

Yeah, we hope to give people the flexibility to choose what works best for them.

Youโ€™re right, so have you seen any registrars making it easier for regular users except us?

Totally, but as crypto gets safer and simpler, it could add real value alongside them.

Dynadot.
And Unstoppable Domains is also moving up that short list

As for you, I'll just leave this here. People can decide for themselves whether that price is competitive or not

Thanks for raising this. Registry costs for domains, even .com, keep going up, and our $16.99 flat price for new regs and renewals is mid-range globally, fully transparent.

Bulk .com deals are even better (see: https://nicenic.net/domain/com-domain-registration.php).

Beyond pricing, we try to add real value with free extras like WHOIS privacy, DNSSEC, push, bulk DNS updates, single- or multi-account bulk renewals, and even fund transfers across accounts.

And no worries, we will not suspend your domain or acount without proofs!

We hope this helps explain where we're coming from, and we'll continue working to balance fair pricing with strong service.:giggle:

Balance is nice, but you are more expensive than over 100 registrars including

Dreamhost
Unstoppable
Sav
Spaceship
Dynadot
IONOS
NameCheap
Hostinger
PorkBun
Network Solutions
Gandi
Regery
gname
Name.com
Loopia

And 85 more!

I struggle to see how any ancillary benefits are going to outweigh pricing that is this uncompetitive.

2050 sounds wild! I just hope renewing a domain wonโ€™t need an AI co-sign lol.

Thank you for sharing, NameGroove!

You said "nice"โ€ฆ we like to think of ourselves as double nice, or just Nicenic.
