Question for all you out there who are not web hosts...

Do you prefer to use cPanel itself or a custom coded varient such as a cpanel front end or a complete custom panel?

Im operating as a free host currently, however, i find it not as effective as just allowing the end user to modify there account directly from mysite other then logging in to cpanel. Currently I just use cpanel itself.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If I were end user i would vote for Cpanel.

I think cPanel is a great user friendly interface, and it has a nice backend too. It's a bit beastly on a server but their optimised version is much better.

In terms of end user, a lot of people are used to using cPanel. I think you'd be best off sticking with cPanel, and perhaps DirectAdmin (though generally better for more advanced users).

I think cpanel will be a good choice.
It has every options one want and are enough to deal with.

(I'm looking at this from a purely end-user point of view.)

Well, the issue with a custom panel is that it makes it more difficult to move a website. I guess, in theory, a free hosted site will eventually moved to a paid hosting company if the site becomes very successful. With a custom control panel, that means manually move the files. It's also a lot of extra work and costs, especially for a free hosting provider, to develop a custom solution. That's a business decision you might or might not want to look into, before making.

Not sure if you have current customers, but have you asked them yet?

I suppose that doesn't matter what panel you are using. Just your customers should feel comfortable.

Personally I do prefer cPanel, but there are certain custom panels which are not less usable and sometimes are better to get in order to save money. As an example I can anm,e the control panel Say5 which is offered by dayanahost as the custom CP.

As for me I prefer to use cPanel which many hosting companies (hostgator, webhostingbuzz, asmallorange, glowhost, etc.) provides. I see no reasons to use any other control panel as cPanel is the best and most usable one.

Cpanel simplifies the process of site transfer from one cpanel host to another, but that's only if a client keeps the idea of potential transfer in his mind. If a client comes to you and he's completely satisfied with your services, why should the idea of the transfer process absorbs his mind?
