Copyright?

Say I own a domain called fanone.com (I don't, I made it up) and I got a copyright on fanone. I then later found out someone had Fan1.com, could I take that domain from them since I have a copyright on fanone?

I'm not a lawyer so this is not actual legal advice, but rather my personal insight.

"Fanone" is not the same as "Fan1". So, no, you likely will not be able to retrieve the name. Also, I believe your copyright had to have been in effect prior to their registering of the name 'Fan1' for you to even have a chance at obtaining the name. It's a longshot but I doubt you'll get anywhere.

Actually you would need to trademark the name, not copyright. There is a difference.

And trademark rights cover "confusingly similar" sounding names as well. Also depends on usage.

if they have a TM in theory yes they can, depending on usage etc..
