Cookie Question

Hi,
I don't really know much about cookies and I don't really need to know how to do what is I am about to ask I just want to know if it is possible to do it and how easy it would be for those well-versed in the way of the cookie.

This is kind of an affiliate question. If someone comes to my .com site via an affiliate link and the cookie is set to expire in 30 days (time not important) could I also use that same cookie for my .co.uk, or .co.jp site?

eg. they come to mysite.com and switch to mysite.co.uk and if they buy something in either domain I would want the affiliate marketer to receive the commission.

Sorry if I put this awkwardly and I hope someone understands what I am trying to ask. Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
cookie planted by first site retains until 30 days (if user never deletes cookie) until another new site comes along on the browser and will over write the cookies your site have left.

cookies are independent of domain extensions.

Thanks for the reply but I don't understand what you are saying.

I want to know if I can set a cookie for two domain extensions at the same time so the affiliate marketer can benefit from sales from either domain.

no. it over writes. the latest domain visited over writes the old cookie.

that's why it's senseless to post referral links on a community, still it's an endless struggle to who's the latest to drop the cookie gets the sales.

Sorry, just to be clear. There is no possible way for a two domains to be set in one cookie? If I have a shop.com for Americans and a shop.co.uk for British people, there is no way one single cookie could be set to include both domains?

but why you want to do it? if first domain already placed the cookie on the computer, it's your referral link's cookie? this could be potential risk for your seo and it's duplicate content.

OK, I am looking at it from another view point. I want to allow the affiliate to receive the benefits whether their customer shops at the .com or the .co.uk version of the store. The affiliate marketer can only send the customer to either .com or .co.uk from one link.

For example if the affiliate drives a customer to my .com store but that customer is British so they will have the option to and more than likely decide to purchase from the .co.uk store. (Like amazon)
