ỹ.com

I remember acquiring this idn awhile back. Not sure of the value or even what language it belongs to.

Thoughts?

I also registered all these idns symbols back in the day. Anyone think they are worth keeping?

Hi fonzie. I understand you are new here and want to get your rating up in quick fashion. I have a real problem when I see appraisals as "Ditto" This does not help the person that wants the appraisal and it does not allow any one else to glean from your appraised knowledge. So in the future can you please at least post some original thoughts that you may have and why. Thanks, todalen

They're sold for mid xx to mid xxx, depends on the language and the type (phonetic, written..), these are "common" "pattern_syntax" of which only few are really valuable (the hearts, jokers, things like that). I like the triangle and the square, low to mid xxx for those at this moment. Is that a smily in there ?

I am making an inventory of all available single characters .gtld's, currently I only have the .com's and not áll the languages are in there but it's a start.
registration is free but required : http://www.idntools.net if you reg any, please update the db with the update form and add rep. if you like ;) .

I dont believe he was trying to get his "rating" up, so dont worry about that :P.
He has not filled out his appraisal methods in his profile so he does not earn NP$ for saying anything so he was simply voicing his opnion, for mtomich's benefit :)

I dont know much about IDN's but yes I have to say i've seen them go for mid $xx on ebay, usually around $30. BUT when selling on ebay ALWAYS tell them all the information they need about IDN domains as most have no idea what they really are, I know many people who were very upset by buying it, then finding out about IDN's so please make it clear :) Just my 2 cents thats all.

The things I always wunder about these names, how are you meant to type them into your browser. How do I make a 'black smiley' using my keyborad?

True, I have no idea, and I doubt that it can be done :)... All IDN names though also have a domain name code thingy, mine was something like sffgatyj--aa.com ... If you used that address it would be the same as my IDN domain was...

You can type these using you alt pad like ÐÏË :) to make a D like that you do ALT + 0208 to make the I its ALT + 0207 and things like that. You just hold down alt and press the number on the numpad. ─ to get that dash its ALT + 2500. There is my lesson for the day :)

He has not filled out any appraisal interviews, so he could not be getting his rating up, but that is exactly what you just did. This thread is for an appraisal, and you've filled out the appraisal FAQs, so you just earned points for that post that had nothing to do with appraising the domain.

What Ditto did was not that bad, but what you did was, as it was off-topic.

Do you know whether or not typing in those domains though will actually take yo to the website, or not. Thanks...

Yep that is a black smiley. On pc keyboards it can be entered by holding in alt and pressing 2 on the num pad (idn compatible browser). Ha ha. I don't know why, but for some reason I am attached to the smiley. ;)

My advice is you keep the meaningful symbols, especially the smiley :) .
The pattern_syntax holds about 1700 characters and as you may expect, there's no direct support for typing such characters besides the cumbersome alt... method.
The value comes solely from the representation of and the familiarity with certain symbols.

By the way, afternic's bazaar now fully supports the IDN, the idn-characters can be shown in the listing header.

I think ỹ is vietnamese, it's practically useless as Vietnam is extremely poor. People have problems buying enough food to cook at home, let alone invest in domains.

I'll buy it for 10$ :)

Yesterday i registered ☼.net , (ALT+15 .net , IDNcode: xn--94h.net), for those who can't see it , it's a small sun symbol. It's more a whim then a real domain domain registration, because at the moment only firefox natively support IDNs (IE will support them in the next IE7).
But we will have to face few issues with ICANN in the future i guess, since i read few papers (yr 2003) where ICANN claims that all non letter/ideograms character (smilies simbols dashs etc) are prohibited. If in the next years ICANN will let us keep those domains, probably they'll become kinda rare collectible items :) Anyway im already very attached to my sun symbol and i think i'll hold it for a long long time. :)

The problem is how is anyone going to enter the "small sun" symbol, other than go to MS Word, add a symbol and then copy and paste.

i had a cyrillic y.net once, it's called the silent u. some people were interested in it, and it went for more than reg fee. so hold on to them.
