90,000 listings does not make it "popular".....now if you added another zero, a different story.

Good question! Lets examine why, first collegehoodies.com is better, that's why it's a developed site, not only that but is it trademarked? maybe it is which is why college hoodie is as good as worthless if this is the case.

Now if some one was searching for a hoodie they would more than likely type in hoodies, not hoodie, just as people would type in cars or bikes instead of car, bike. Now given this info your job would now be to find out if collegehoodies is trademarked.

Assuming it is then the domain is useless to develop, if not, then just park it with college links and get some free traffic, in which case maybe it is worth a few bucks, but lets not get excited before we find out if its trademarked.

OK, so we typed that in and we get 29198 Records of trademarks! It appears that every slogan on a hoodie is trademarked, im not sure if that's good news that collegehoodie is generic or not, but anyway, what are you going to do with the domain now? Start a site competing with the established site, collegehoodies.com? Good Luck, IMO just park it see if you get any free traffic, if not, move on and drop it or sell it if you can.

This is a good name. Many people see google search returns as the holy grail of marketing or evaluations.
This healthy exact search result of 90+K is decent. This is a manageable pool of competition. Your chances
of ranking higher on goog are better.

In this case the names are very similar in monthly search numbers. But you may notice the advertisers bids
to be slightly higher for the singular term "hoodie". This is because a consumer searching for a specific
"hoodie" is more motivated than a shopper looking at "hoodies". This is a subtle and slight difference but
noticeable.

The plural is developed and would actually serve you traffic via it's marketing efforts and human error.

college hoodie:
G[][]G results 96K / 8 advertisers
$0.66
4,400
2,900

college hoodies
G[][]G returns 59k / 8 advertisers
$0.64
6,600
5,400

Value at low to mid $$$ (imo) but it should be developed.

The plural is underdeveloped. This niche is open for you to move into.
Develop this name. This is not the market to sell this name in.

Good luck

I'm going to revisit this as someone (namenut) sees some value in it. I still fancy parking it as the best bet, developing a site around this I'm not convinced would be a big dollar spinner.

I am kind of interested in what collegehoodies.com makes in $, but we will not know this so lets move on. I think it's interesting that namenut points out that hoodie is better than hoodies for click price, but i still favor having collegehoodies as a domain for my site (selling hoodies), as the hoodie clicks would still go there on that site anyway if they had adsense going, so it's not really that relevant IMO.

I think this has to do with people looking for a specific college when buying a hoodie, rather than hoodies, that's my theory anyway. I do agree that the niche seems underdone, but maybe most people buy their hoodie from the college?

Certainly some further investigation could be warranted, but first i would park it and see what traffic transpires, and click throughs before rushing out and spending any money on a site. I would agree that building a better site than collegehoodies.com would not be difficult, but is it worth it?

That is the $64 question.
