Hello,

I have two domains which I'm currently developing.

Collegegun.com (Forum/Blog where college students submit news, articles, videos, and debate). I plan to make it a online college newspaper for college students around the world.

Designforeward.com (graphics forum/resources for webmaster)

What do you think about the domains?

Both need branding and developing for real value IMO.. low xx as is.. neither is likely to be searched as a phrase.

Sure, it's not going to worth much right now. However, I think collegegun is really fun domain to remember and with development, it has a lot of potential, I think.

Unfortunately, when I saw CollegeGun my first thought was of the Texas Tower Massacre. :( So, I wasn't thinking "fun".. not to mention, I don't see the two words as a good fit.

There are a lot of domains which don't reflect their actual content (TheOnion? Clownpaint?) and they are very popular websites. I think people will remember the domain if they like the content.

Agreed.. it may be memorable.. eventually. Needs branding first. As I mentioned, the word pairs as is are unlikely to be search for.

Well, I think "college" is a good search phrase to put into any domain in my opinion. Nobody search for "smoking gun" in google without knowing the website in the first place but then eventually people search for it pairs when they heard about it from other people or if the site is popular.

maybe.. if you're searching for "college sports" or "college bowl" but "college potato flakes" or "college sump pump" would be a poor choice, much like my opinion of "college gun".. not one I'd choose or invest in.

Well, each to their own opinion. I have a couple of webmasters telling me that 'collegegun' is a fantastic domain (easy to remember and sounds fun) and have a lot of potential. A lot of the well-known domains you see nowadays start out with very low expectation from others but they grow to be very popular.

What I'm telling you is that, in any case, it will need branding and development to have any real value.

A good test of value is to ask those same webmasters how much they'd write a check for that domain and I think you'll see the appraisals suddenly become a bit more "realistic".

A friend of mine said that the domain "collegegun" is worth at least $100 (very realistic) but of course, if I develop it with content and let's say a big forum with thousands of members, I can sell it for a more than $100.

Any domain can be developed and with a big forum will be above $100. CollegeGun.com is catchy but holds no meaning other than to regurgitate some to the memories of the Tower Massacre.

Reg Fee - Low XX without development, but go ahead and make yourself "a big forum with thousands of members."

Nice domain, xx .

BTW, if you do develop it successfully, there is no value you can put on there...it could be worth millions if you are ridiculously good.

Thanks! I'm using the revenue I get from my other sites to develop this domain and I'm going to take the time to make the design and content very good before I launch it. I haven't yet decided on the direction that site's going to be but I like the domain a lot and it's pretty brandable.

The domain name is not very good. If you really are going to make a big site and heavily promote it I think you could/should get a better name. I agree with others here, its not as strong as you think and has bad connotations of events people would rather not dwell on. Good luck though if you stick to your plan.

I've been watching this thread now from the shadows now for the past day, and I guess I'll put in my two cents, the domain did seem to grab my attention to keep reading what people thought about it, and might get you high $$ low $$$ to a speculator on ebay =).
