Ok, I did a google translate on the "brand name" and it turns out its a pretty generic name, or a common word, in Spanish. But what explanations could there be that this name is not yet registered? Seems to good to be true?
I have no idea of the name, nor the company. So I can't explain.... maybe they own the dot com... that still doesn't mean they shouldn't protect their brand and own the .co though

The .com with the same name is registered and for sale. There is nothing on that website except a "Buy this Domain" link with a form. I guess this colombian company isn't interested in being visible on the internet.

Either it's not a real company or someone else "squatted", if it's real, offer the .co... at a good price. Be realistic, if the .com was cheap enough, they would own it..... or maybe they won't be around.... a competitor may buy it for the kwywords. Do more research on the company you are speaking of. That's the best advice I can give u buddy. Maybe someone has some other suggestions. If u don't get other ideas, research, research, reseaech!-the potential buyer!!!!

Do you know the companies current domain? Research their social media pages if you can't find one. If you find a large social media following, with no domain attached, that's a good sign the domain might have value or that it's possibly bot related to mimic a fake company. If you find no domain attached to their social media and/or a small following, you can assume they're just a small company that has yet to look into a website. Why find a domain if you don't have a website yet? If that's the case, be prepared to offer website solutions to demonstrate how easy and affordable it is to set up a small site to begin their web presence.

Thanks for the advice. I finally found their real website and it turns out that their domain is 2 words and the .co domain is registered to someone who has connections to this firm. But there has to be a reason why this first generic word on the .co is not yet registered.

Simple question then. Is it worth to own common generic words in other languages on their national TLD? Like GENERIC.co, GENERIC.il and so forth?

Yeah, I'm getting the following message from godaddy when trying for some generic words:
"Sorry, that name is not available for registration. Please try again."
I guess that would be to easy.

Sadly its the only source of information we have at this time. When something more reliable comes along then we will use that but until then it will have to be 111.co

mango.co is much better than mangoes.co imo. on some occations, plural has more power than singular. for example diamonds.com must be much worth than diamond.com. but on some occations it is singualr. as stated above mongo.co is worth than mangoes.co. this is just my openion.

dubsmash.co seems a brandable name and hope you will get an offer in comming month / years.
