Hi all,

I have pre regged some .in ... like many other members here.

But I have also pre regged a few .co.in

What are your thoughts ? Worth having some ?

Do they have potential ? Do you expect any traffic (given the fact that .co.in is the only known indian extension for the moment) ?

Lets take the example of music.co.in (this example has been take in the active .in thread).

Would that be a very good name or just a killer keyword in a poor extension ?

How would you appraise it (at the moment) compared to music.in ... ?

Grégoire.

.co.in has not really been used much because of the massive restrictions in the past unlike .co.uk, so limited value and utility :imho:

I think that restrictions that were in place drastically limiting usage of .co.in will possibly cause a rebound whereby there will be a mass rush to set up sites in both .in and .co.in to take advantage of one of the world's fastest growing consumer economies.

I give little credence to the scenario that there will not be enough money around to buy up premium names. If only 1% of Indians have the available funds and the business acumen to do something about it then you still have in excess of 10 million potential buyers, you can then add to that with individuals and companies outside of India that will take advantage of the new relaxed environment!

English is also widely used and understood in India unlike the problems of the likes of .cn. Another major bonus.

And yes - I have pre regged some B-)

I hope DD24 (one honest registrar amongst the lot of them!) stuffs it to those other registrars that are trying to make a major killing - GO FOR IT DD24

I personally believe .co.in will prove to be a second-rate extension. Why would someone go to .co.in when there is .in?
If .co.in was very common then it would still hold good value. Of course the best keywords are good in almost any extension.

I haven't pre-regged any .co.in

"Of course the best keywords are good in almost any extension."

There is your main criteria

I regged some of each.At first I was sort of turned off by .co.in by comparison to .in,but currently there is no .IN,just .co.in.
This leads me to believe co.in is already in the minds of Indian websurfers, which should count for something.I don't think just because .IN is being introduced, everyone is suddenly going to forget co.in which has been around (under restriction) for a long time. Also of note,.co.in is about half the price to register, which may be appealing to many people.
That said,I only pre-registered best of the best keywords in .co.in,maybe 10 names total, and about 15 .in names.Only a few hours till we see a string of .IN and co.in posted in the appraisal board :)
