how is the .cn market these days, when I read about it before it seemed to be hard to find a good register? Where is a good place to register these names at a good price and what do you think of the present state & future of the .cn?

I have not buy any .cn and would definitely get them as they are very cheap since CNNIC is pushing hard to make .cn the highest registered ccTLDs after .de
If you are looking for cheap rate, suggest you sign-up as a reseller with webnic.cc to enjoy wholesale price of only USD1 per .cn. Just initial deposit usable for domian registration anyway.
Anyway, I know Webnic.cc has direct accrediation with CNNIC, and is the best oversea registrar in CNNIC book. Check it yourself.
