Very broad name for a forum when most are related to niche markets but still not that bad despite "the."
I think .net actually works very well with forums (as well as .org) and many extensions are taken for the domain name but not one top level version actually being utilized which makes me think its a hard sell.
With "the" and ".net" I would say low $xxx to mid $xxx resale. Maybe more to the perfect end-user ($x,xxx) which would be a company looking to build and sell forum software in general (or maybe a forum addition on a product like Wordpress). But no BIG corporate buys though with both "the" and ".net." so low $x,xxx at the very most in the perfect situation imo.
Personally, I would try to flip it in the $xxx range, otherwise you may sit on it for a while with little potential for big $ even from an end-user sale considering the other taken extensions and their lack of any use.
Sorry for the longest freakin appraisal/explanation possible.
