Click through fraud?

I'm worried that one of my domains is being artificially inflated. Im definitely not doing it, but perhaps the owner of the .com version of my name is doing it?? I don't know, but it's gone through the roof in the past 3 weeks as has the click through rate (parked domain). Doesn't make much sense.

Do I need to contact Sedo or... ?

Who is to know? Without knowing the domain name I could not guess as to why.

Yes you should contact Sedo immediately before they suspend your account.
This practice is taken up by competitors to erase there competition. Just notify sedo and ask whether this is normal traffic and also that you suspect some foul play.

Thanks glaxxon / Shane. Went ahead and sent them this:

Thanks [sedo rep],
I have another question - I'm concerned that someone is artificially directing traffic/clicks to one of the names in my account. I am DEFINITELY not doing it, but I feel like the stats for [domain name] are bogus. This month it has garnered more than /// uniques with /// clicks. That doesn't make sense to me. Logically, I could imagine it getting //-/// uniques with a click through of //%. That's more in keeping with the competition. Anyway, I thought I should alert Sedo to the suspicious stats. Thanks for your attention on this matter.

That should be okay. Now you are safe..

It may have been a recent news article that has caused a spike in traffic from the norm, when this happens on one of my names I usually do a thourough google search using my domain keywords. Sometimes you can find the exact article.

Yeah, I thought about this possibility but the click through rate is nearly 50%... on a very large number of unique visitors. Seems to high for a sedo parked page. The ads just can't be that compelling....

How large ?

How large?
1300 uniques (in the last 3 days) on a speculative .net with no active .com or .org equivalent and no logical keyword construction. nearly 650 ad clicks (this is the part that seems really weird). The variants of this name (the ones that are better than my name) could command a premium in today's market...

Whoa! You were right in contacting Sedo. It sounds like you have been click-bombed by an unhappy competitor.

Sedo will have the tools to investigate the source of the IP addresses, and your being pro-active should show good faith on your part.

They say that everything looks fine to them and that they are not concerned with the traffic stats. They attribute it to the popularity of another site. Alas, I think they're wrong. The stats just don't make sense... the clickthroughs alone dont make sense. Is there any parked site in the world with a verifiable clickthrough rate of 50%?????

Oh well. I tried!

Well you covered your bases and they said everything was fine. There is nothing more you can do now except sit back and reap the rewards. Sedo seem happy, nothing more you can do.
