Citing Sources for Website

When you gather information from another source (i.e. a book, magazine, film, etc.) how do you cite it on a website? Is there a standard format for a written citation similar to when writing a paper or a book? I would appreciate any and all feedback on this thread, thanks!
P.S. the website is a personal small history project

If you mean a quote with a link to that source, here's how I do it:

thanks for the info...i will be taking information from books since the site is based on history, but I want to be sure to correctly cite the sources - any idea how to cite info from a book?

Most libraries have copies of works cited pages with examples showing how to correctly cite information from different sources.
