I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

General consensus of opinion at my local language school Chinese students: domain names with Chinese characters are not popular in China, hard to type and not really used. Confounding me yet again : )

This question has probably been asked before here on NP but what's the true opinion of the Chinese towards .net's? I mean I'm seen they take a liking to the exotics like .XYZ and .TOP and even .FYI but no one seems to be talking about .net's seems like the Chinese don't like .net's? or is it just me the newbie thinking this? I'd like some stats and historical examples please. If anyone wants to help out here too I'd appreciate it thanks.

Avtar629,
You can find stats and historical examples at China auction sites. your search bar should have a T (for translate) button. click it.
I have read on China news sites there is a large investor that prefers .net, it sounds better to him, and individuals do purchase .net. Like in America and elsewhere, just viewed as less desirable.
Cheers

I wonder though. I mean knowing Chinese militant past and how they use to control everything. Since China opened it's doors to the world I feel that the Chinese Culture has become white washed so to speak and influenced by the West. I wonder how much more will the Chinese Gov will tolerate the infiltration of the West into China. Could the Chinese Gov perhaps impose Gov Rules that say domains operating in China should and MUST be in Chinese characters?

could this ever happen? Remember China's strict history prior to opening its doors to the West. I mean we are talking about a country that has BANNED Google. Thee largest Search engine on the Planet from China because it did not PASS the Chinese Gov. "quality test".

This is why Baidu flourishes in China.

I personally think China wanted to make sure Baidu would DO WELL. I mean with a captive and forced audience forced to use only Baidu. It's pretty one sided.

Basically in that scenario we are looking at the Chinese Gov. excerising it';s power over it's people and supporting a Chinese Company. The Chinese Gov was baised to Baidu.

Now think of Language as a business.

Which "language" do you think China will Support?

Chinese of course!

China seems to want to limit the penetration of western companies to give an "edge" to it's own Chinese companies.

But it is OKAY with allowing it's companies and citizens to spread out into the western world and make a profit by investing in real estate.

but when they come back they better not create Westernized companies????

Let me ask this simple question.

If tomorrow in the news we hear that China has BANNED all websites not using Chinese IDN characters in the domains or even worse also including Chinese Extensions..

Would anyone really be surprised? Let's see what you all will say. I'd be interested as I know most people will be too.

Is it too much of a stretch to believe that this might happen?

Like I stated before Google is Banned in China. Do you think the Chinese would rather use GOOGLE? of course they would! Google is AWESOME!

So are the English language characters A,B,C,X,Y,Z. Awesome!

But just like how the Chinese banned AWESOME Google. Couldn't China also BAN AWESOME western character domains?

under the premise of China Pride? or simply for Chinese ease of use since most Chinese SPEAK and READ Chinese?

The Chinese Gov. Banning Google is a perfect example of China opening it's doors to the west and then cherry picking what they allow IN and what they BLOCK.

No PORN. NO GAMBLING. You know all the stuff that makes the WEST AWESOME.

what else? can anyone else add to this list?

I regged:

58580.co
:xf.grin:

So its great to see it has some potential even tho dot co.

Still unsure why dot co hasn't really caught on with Chinese investors yet like other extensions?

Any ideas why?

me either. especially when you see .cc and .top and .cn and .fyi and .xyz selling for thousands.
I really don't get why. maybe because .co is more expensive renewals?

maybe it's tunnel vision on the part of the chinese domain resellers. there is too much aftermarket number dotcoms to go around that why bother with .co? to them it's too hard to convince a buyer about the value of .co especially since there's readily available millions of .com.

if you are looking for answers you really have to look at the movements of chinese domain brokers. they really are the KEY.

I have to comment on this. I can see why IDN.com would suck for the lazy Chinese teen. lol. same as western teens. lol so what's the logical best bet then?

Chinese IDN DOT Chinese IDN
now that one you can actually see won't be a hassle assuming most Chinese users already have their phones keywords automatically set with Chinese character keyboards.

But remember most mobile phones from the west like apple or even samsung almost always has the .COM button anyways. and let's be honest. the desktop PC in the future will be a DINOSAUR. There will be mobilephones powerful enough to be equal to that of a PC in the future. Just look at the progression of technology over the decades for proof of this.

So ok lazy Chinese teen. keep your keyboards CHINESE and type those websites and just hit the DOTCOM button. Easy peezy!

Two quick question with chinese number patterns. Keeping in mind that short is king for domains.

1/ 888.com would be very good. Is there a number of 8s that works well? eg 4x8's, 6x8's, 8x8's
2/ is there any particular number combinations that are considered 'the best' or what would be the top 3 combinations.

f I register 'yuminggongju.com' .. will it mean 'domaintools.com' or something else?
I'm biased because I don't own any Pinyin domain name. Before you acquire a Pinyin name, make sure you get the Chinese characters so that you can later easily ask any Chinese for confirmation. Chinese don't read Pinyin words usually. We use Chinese characters instead.

What's the meaning of 158. Someone posted it but I can't find it.
158:要我发>Want me to make a fortune

We're wondering if the "inc" works for Chinese/English speakers
I doubt.

what's the true opinion of the Chinese towards .net's
Many companies are running their business on .net. See the latest news on .net and use Google Translate to help you get a rough idea.

I have a chart from 0 to 99 which will be included in an upcoming blog post.

General consensus of opinion at my local language school Chinese students: domain names with Chinese characters are not popular in China, hard to type and not really used. Confounding me yet again
That's interesting. I've been using it all my life since elementary school. These days, Chinese input is very easy. Just speak to Siri, Google Now or Cortana and they'll transcribe the Chinese characters. See this quick demo.

Which "language" do you think China will Support?
English. That's why I focus on the whole world but not just China when acquiring domain names.

Still unsure why dot co hasn't really caught on with Chinese investors yet like other extensions?
China has a potential to grow from the current 30m to 500m domain names. Many short names will be accepted, imo, but it takes time to grow the market.

Xixyy.com[/QUOTE
No idea.

88 is good because "all good things come in pairs"
888 the chinese loves patterns.
if 88 is lucky then the assumption is 888 will be more lucky.

but 8888? you'll get 50-50 opinions. that it's great or that since it's 4 eights in a row that 4 is bad luck. so I guess 888 is best
