Most likely your problem.

Make sure your Java is up to date. You can get the latest version at www.java.com (click 'download')

It worked a little bit earlier today, and now it doesn't.

I have the most current version of Java installed.

Could just be a temporary problem, have you tried restarting your PC or reinstalling Java? Chat's still working fine for me and another (right now) 8 others.

Yes, I have reinstalled Java, and restarted my PC.

Who knows. I'll check on it again later today, I suppose.
