www.CD.com --Appraisal please

I'm working with the owner of www.CD.com to sell the name, and am curious as to your thoughts on value.

This is obviously a name with huge potential, has been registered since 1992 (two years before CDnow grabbed 'cdnow.com'), so we feel the price will be significant.

However I'd love your thoughts/feedback/appraisal.

Thank you.

"ICANN will never automatically confiscate two letter domains."

How can you be so sure of that?
would you wager a million bucks on it?

To date that is true. Things may change in the future. A million dollars is alot to gamble with. Any corporate attorney will look at the 'uncertainty' in the domain industry. It could be a hard sell at a high dollar value like that.

That's why I say "take the money and run".

The trade mark issue... I agree... no problem

Hi Aviators, thanks for coming by to clear that up.

The owners of NamePros were probably referering to your domain price evaluation and did not realize exactly what other content you were refering to. Most everything I post here that is domain news, comes from my "Domain Food" site, including the highest sales list. (For example, "Duke" of DNJournal.com also cross-posts some of his information here, it doesn't mean his stuff can be printed elsewhere without his permission/credit)

Alex did write me back but he has yet to offer credit (in fact he seemed reserved about it) but I now understand that there are multiple parties involved so I will assume its just a communications breakdown. (updated: I've now heard from Alex and this should be straightened out shortly)

Best wishes to you and the other people involved - good luck with the sale, I think it will do well!

ps. are you really the guy who sold the haunted coke can on ebay? :)
Now *that* is marketing!

If they do this, ICANN will have to contend with:

- Barnes & Noble (bn.com)
- Centralnic (many 2-letter country abbreviations like us.com) and their subdomain registrants
- Johnson&Johnson (jj.com)

Also, they must do the same with 1-letter domains. Can you imagine the backlash when they:

- inform Paypal that they lost X.com due to a policy change
- tell Nissan Motors that they can kiss their Z.com investment goodbye

IMO, its just trouble ICANN does not need, hence the current policy of just reserving the once that do drop.

Indeed, still amazes me.

While I do not have definitive proof of this, based on that ICANN document I believe they were just trying to stop anyone in the future like CentralNic from creating their own end-run around ICANN's control.

ICANN has a slight control issue with any TLD not under their regulation, just ask the newnet and .web people :)

But armstrong is right, ICANN would be sued out of existance if they tried to confiscate all the single and double letter domains currently in existance. CD.com is safe as long as they keep the renewals going. At $60 for a ten year registration, there is no excuse for letting them drop.

I'll make sure you hear from someone tomorrow. Talk to you then.

Cheers

I
a) expect it to go over 1 million
b) am SURE icann will NEVER stop allowing renewals on the domain nor take them away
c) am SURE sedo is going to get filthy rich - again
